I had asked about a Kayak Trophy on the FB site and had not heard back but while surfing last year's prizes I noticed a prize for the largest Kayak caught King. I'm still in at this date.

I had asked about a Kayak Trophy on the FB site and had not heard back but while surfing last year's prizes I noticed a prize for the largest Kayak caught King. I'm still in at this date.

I was told by the coordinator that Sportsman's warehouse had stepped up to the plate with some prizes.  To be honest, they were fairly generic stuff that none of us would likely use.  Great boat rods and stuff like that for maybe out of town guests.  Still we are appreciative.  In fact, the Homer Chamber gave all the prizes to me so I could add them to our tournament pile in June since no one caught a king in March.  We hope not to have that happen again.

Personally, I think it's great we get recognized, but I am in it for the big prize.  The Anchor Point derby asked if we wanted another category one year and while I can't speak for the group, I declined saying "additional recognition" is ok, but I dn't want any special rules or protections that PB's don't have.  When I when it all, I want it to be without an asterisk.

Considering a run down tomorrow.  Was going to go today but just could not drag my butt out of bed.  So here I am at work...tyiing here..ugh....

I am all in !. Weather looks like it may cooperate. I am going to try to fish on the 20th, I expect to be on the water in the early afternoon to fine tune gear and my winning game plan. Perhaps we all could meet for dinner and an adult beverage somewhere and compare notes.

+1

I am going to try and be down there Friday to fish as well.  I would like to hit the water before the 3pm high tide as the in coming tide is what we will be fishing and I have very little experience during that stage of the tide.  The main thing I want to check on Friday if I can remember is to bring an underwater camera and find the "silty water" seam and see how far it extends to the bottom.  If the silty water is only 5 to 10 ft deep, that opens up a LOT more water to fish in that area.  I've been pretty successful trolling the what sems like the edge of the clear water but it may be that you are actually a long ways away from the clear water/ silt line where your bait is running.  We will see.  That's a PITA but could be worth it.

I'm staying with friends in an RV by the boat ramp.  So I am definitely up for meeting up!  OK, who else is in.  If you aren't registered here, You aren't part of TEAM NWKA ALASKA!!!!  LOL.  I;ll start a PM with the appropriate folks later today!!!

LET'S GET ONE!!!!

I might be able to pull off March 21st... I return from Shemya Is on the 20th, and possibly head to Wash D.C. on the 22nd.  That leaves one day for fishing!!

I hope you guys catch tons of fish!  I'm rooting for you!  I wont be able to make this, or the may trip regretfully.  The Air Force is keeping me busy flying all over the place  :'(

Alright!  Bailed out of work early so I can get ready,  Plan is to leave here in the morning and try and be on the water around noon.  Not going to rush or lose any sleep to pre-fish.

I am fishing the spit.  I think I mentioned this early but my plan is run green able herring first.  If I don't get any strikes, I am going to scale down to my needlefish hoochies or silver horde coho killer spoons.  I may even tie up a mylar sand lance imitation that better matches the size of the fish I saw in the last king...but they were awful small...and it did hit green label herring....

I think we should semi stick together and don't be shy about coming right over to the area once a fish is hooked up.  Obviously you can't tangle in the lines but on a powerboat, multiple simultaneous takedowns happen a lot for a reason.  They definitely travel in packs.  I KNOW that if you could fish a second rod, if you tossed something out as soon as you hooked up, I bet you get hit a lot more often than you would think.  Not just because they are there, but fish get "amped" up when another gets hooked.  From what I have witnessed, they don't get scared, but rather their competitive instincts kick in.

So with rule number one being don't cost someone their fish (duh!) Rule 2 should be to utilize each other as fish finders and pound an area as soon as one of us hooks up.  it's the one advantage we have over powerboats, our collective lines cover a greater swath of water than a single boat running 4 lines for example.  I've seen it time and time again where it is dead and then all of the sudden one section of water just lights up with every boat hooked up.

I will be staying near the Boat launch in an RV with friends.  But I am definitely for getting together somewhere to chat Friday evening.  I think Jeff and his wife will be down as well.  I think that's...five?

I am leaving in the wee hours of the day but am not going to race down. I am staying at the Bidarka for two days, I couldn't get the 21st from Lands End when I was booking a month ago. I like the free truck driver breakfast at the Bidarka anyway. I get out on the water tomorrow when I get there, but I will target noonish. Rudy where do you put in? I usually park between the condos and put in there.

Yup. Between hotel and the condos. If there's ever any issue we can park closer to town. There's just more surf there. With an incoming tide, the parking lot next to lands end and the ferry dock will work. Just watch out for boats.
