Ok.  Who is in???  My plan this year as of right now is to just fish off the spit.  Look for that one takedown.  Trying to be realistic.  my goal is to enter a 10 pound or better king.

I got the following email from the new derby coordinator.  I thought it was awful nice of them to think about us and I think if I can tell her there will be more than just me, they may go look for prizes for our group,

So here's the email:

Hi Rudy!

Jim gave me your email address. I am the new Derby Coordinator and I am working on the Winter King Tournament coming up on March 21. I have wonderful pictures of your group last year fishing and we hope that you join us again for 2015. Please let me know if you are so we can distinguish your group from folks on boats.

Thanks!

Sounds great Rod!  Barring family or work tragedy, I plan to hit it.  I think I will go low budget this year and fish off the spit.

The question right now is Super Bowl Sunday.... Keep the king streak alive and maybe even try for some first day of the season halibut!  I've never caught them this early.  I have a weekend maybe two in February I know I can't fish so I got to try when I can!

I might be able to pull off March 21st... I return from Shemya Is on the 20th, and possibly head to Wash D.C. on the 22nd.  That leaves one day for fishing!!

Did any kayak caught fish get entered last year. ????

NOPE.  No fish yet.  I couldn't get an answer from them because I don't think anyone knows but I am pretty sure, there is the title of "First kayak fish ever entered."  available still!!!!   Frankly, I don't mind being the second fish entered as long as I win the entire derby!

"CRS"?  confused as always....

I'm in. Rudy, I haven't fished Homer from a Kayak yet and have only caught kings from shore or on charters. Maybe we can do a trial run/king clinic prior to the derby? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd take some pointers from you.

Alright!! Sounds good.  It's a learning experience for me too. I've got May and June plus sept through dec figured out a bit but the late winter kings are more elusive.  Be happy to share what I know. It's pretty basic.  I'll try and get more Intel!!!

I have not fished the event before, do I need a flag and a strobe to keep from getting runover by the PBs?
