Do you have to get a separate card or something in order to have detailed maps and depth info for lakes in WA and OR?  Looks like there's a base map displayed on the demo...are the maps useful?  How about ocean structure/depths...is that on the maps of this unit?   I think I could use some kind of charting to go with the sonar.  There are so many fish finders it's hard to sort thru all the features.  Thanks for highlighting a good price deal.

According to the guy at cabelas he said all you need to do is to buy the navionics sd card and you can plug it in and it will work.

Barb,

The Gold version of the Elites comes with the Navionics chip.  Aftermarket, the chip is at least $100, and does have the  detailed maps.  I did not buy the gold chip, but did just learn that Navionics has a telephone app for $10  with the same data.

Fishermans Marine has the Elite 4 HDI on sale now for $179.

I just upgraded to the 5 HDI and love it, outside of it being a battery hog.  I had to buy a bigger battery after running out of battery after 4 hours.

Geeze! That's a better deal! Do they have an ad showing the sale? Maybe I'll see if cablas will price match.  That's a drive from Eugene.

You can download the print ad from Fisherman's website. Sale ends on Feb. 15.

Cosmo, I upgraded too.  What battery are you running now?

Here's a link to the Fisherman's ad:

You might take it into Cabela's to see if they'll price match.  I know that they'll match their own online prices in-store (at least the Tualatin store did last fall for a generator purchase).

I called Cabela's and they do price match but the competitor has to be within 50 miles of the location and the competitor must have it in stock. So unfortunately I'd have to drive up there.

that's a crazy good deal! maybe call fishermans and ask if they'll ship for an extra few bucks?
i got mine NIB + NavGold for $300 this summer, and that was a good deal at the time. Maybe they're making room for CHIRP stuff?

Cosmo, why did you upgrade to the 5 series?
And what battery are you running now on the 5 series so you can find fish all day long?

The navionics iPhone app is awesome.  At $9.99it is well worth the money... Especially for scouting and trip planning.

Lee, I'm guessing what you saw was the Elite 4X, and not the Elite 4.
"x" means no gps
