Been fishing a lot of years.  Started out on the bank, moved to boat, and when things went south, had to give up the boat.  Situation is such that getting back into a boat is just not going to happen.  Last year I bought a Wilderness Ride.  I just upgraded to an Outcast and am rigging it out.  I was told that the Hobie battery won't last through a day of fishing for a larger fish finder.  I just bought a elite 5 w/chirp. I was told ion batteries was the way to go.  Being new to this I thought I would seek out advice before spending money.  So any info on which battery would be best and where to buy them would be much appreciated.

Lithium ion batteries don't last any longer that similarly rated sealed lead acid batteries. I run a 9 ah SLA on a hummingbird 597 5" color screen with GPS and get two days easy at full brightness.
I have avoided Lithium batteries because if something goes wrong they can get really hot and melt straight through the boat .... and I'm cheap.
Look up your unit's draw per hour, multiple by the number of hours you want to run and that will be your minimum battery size.

The only advantage to lithium batteries is less weight and smaller size.

For the average mortal, that weight offset is significant.   :-*

I'm cheap as well, and loved my SLA for its simplicity.  Go with that and see if it works for you.  Mine started to drop its charge time to about 3 hrs, but that could have been me screwing up the thing by charging overnight.  Otherwise, you can drop about $90 for this type of setup.  This Anker 20 ah battery has an internal microprocessor that's supposed to automatically shut it down to avoid the meltdown.  I'll let you all know how that goes.  I just set it up.

Thanks to all for the advice.  I went with willbd's suggestion.  I like the fact that it has USB and can be used in multiple ways instead of being single purpose.  Besides it was on sale for 49.90.  I'm cheap too... :)
