A trick I did to my Hobie seat to keep the straps from slipping and making you stare a the sky throughout the day, is to modify the buckle a tad.

Loosen the strap to expose the areas where the  webbing strap needs to have traction on the buckle.
Heat up a tool that is flat and as wide as the strap with a torch or other method. Get it nearly red hot.

Now carefully lay the hot blade tool directly on the plastic ever so lightly so as not to melt all the way through.
Just enough to get the surface to melt.
Once the surface is gooey, lift off really quick to make little stringy bits that are pulled away from the buckle with the blade.

Note:
You may have to do this one or more times to get the effect you are looking for.

There are two areas on each buckle that need the attention, and obvious when you see where the webbing strap need the added traction.

Insayn - that's pretty genius. If the straps start to slip I'll definitely do that.

Poly - Do you fasten or attach the additional pad to your seat or yak? Or just toss it on top/underneath the seat?

Mine is the Hobie specific one with velcro. I've seen people use everything from hunting pads to rubber hemorrhoid pads that resemble a whopee cushion.

Do you guys with hobie seats ever need to adjust it or is one spot sweet? If no need to adjust it why not sew it? Not sure if it would work I'm not a hobie guy.

I like to be able to adjust the angle of my seat, so I wouldn't sew the straps permanently in place on my kayak.  Some owners of Hobie and other brands of sit-on-top kayak add a camlock buckle, http://www.fastex.com.au/fastex-camloc.html , to the adjustment straps of their kayak seat to keep the straps from slipping.  Velcro would probably also be enough to keep the seat straps from slipping through the buckles.  The seat straps on my kayaks don't slip enough to bother me, so I haven't felt the need to add either of these things.

I adjust my seat everytime I do a surf landing.
For pedaling I lay the seat back a bit. For aggressive paddling I prefer a nearly vertical seat, even slightly leaning forward to help me lock into the boat.
I have never had my straps slip.

I seem to tighten the straps constantly.  I don't think I'd want to lock them. I change seat position and where my feet contact the pedals all the time. I don't use the toe clips.

+1 on adjusting for comfort or situation, so I wouldn't want them sewn. Insayn's mod sounds like a solid fix. Just adds a little bite. Leave it to the Macgyver of kayak garage tinkering to have a good solution!

You wanna hear of a good Macgyver kayak seat solution?

Should have seen how we rigged BSteves a seat for his T-13 one day for sturgeon fishing after he left his kayak seat at home.

We took my motorcycle tie down strap I used to tie down my kayak to the bed of my truck and attached it to either side of his kayak, (I believe it was to the handles), and put his foam rubber kayak rack pad over the tie down to make a back rest.  He didn't complain all day about lack of comfort, and he still had a good solid cadence while paddling.

If I was ever stranded on a beach with only a box of tampons and some hand lotion to fashion a life saving device. You're the guy I'd want with me!

The upside to today's beaches is that there is man made junk on damn near every beach on the planet.

While I keep you busy tying all the tampons together and waterproofing the mini raft with the lotion, I'm getting the hell off the other side of the beach with the crap I scrounge up.   :laughing9:

Well shit... I guess DWB123 would have been the better choice. Sounds like he's got real plans that won't just leave me stranded with lanolin soaked tampons on a deserted beach
