Is it possible to alter or improve the stock hobie seat on pre-2015 boats to help prevent it from "unplugging" and sliding all over the damn place?

That's weird.  My seat doesn't move at all once I twist the plugs and they lock in place.  Are your plugs stripped?

I would suggest you need a bigger ass in the seat but then I realized you are the biggest ass I know.  ;D

AYYYYY nice one, Piper.

Snopro - Twist the plugs? The plugs don't look twistable in any way. My seat's from prob'y '07 or so. Maybe the later models were redesigned?

There are a couple different models and I believe there is an upgrade kit to the latest twist n lock seat pegs. IIRC the kit was around $15.

I just updated my older model friction pegs to the twist lock pegs.  When you search at ACK, they show this:
http://www.austinkayak.com/products/14711/Hobie-Twist-Lock-Seat-Adapter-Kit.html

But its only part of the kit.  The kit I ordered had screw in peg holders, and pvc end caps that you place over the "nubs" inside the kayak where the seat pegs in to reinforce.  It also came with quick setting epoxy.  So you may want to call them.  The above parts list is only a partial list.

Haven't tried it yet but looks solid enough.  We will see, it is by FAR my number one complaint about the Hobies.  I can't believe I waited this long!!!

You could try Velcro...but im not sure how it would hold up with it being in contact with water.  .

Even with my twist'n'lock pegs the stock seat in my addy would come loose half way through the day every time. Plus the straps would slip and I'd have to constantly tighten them. The best option for me was ditch the Hobie seat and use my Surf to Summit GTS Elite. I only did this a few times because it was such a PIA to readjust back to my X-13 for HOW events. So long story short. If it still slips, buy an aftermarket seat.

Thanks, Poly. For $14 for the hobie pegs I'll give it ago before dishing out $150 for the elite seat, although dear lord does the stock hobie seat blow.

If it helps anyone else, just as a data point, in my 2014 I had zero problems with the seat slipping from the pegs (twist and lock type). I actually kind of liked that system. The straps did need occasional adjustment OTW, though.

I went aftermarket route also. The stock seat was just too much trouble. When the '15 models came out I thought pretty hard about upgrading, but the hit was more than I wanted to take, so I split the baby in half and bought Surf-to-Summit GTS Expedition seats (I have a tandem). It is a night and day difference. No more seat slipping, and the GTS seats are way more comfortable. They have a much more supportive back, better padding and they don't slip  ;D

I'm sure i'll upgrade seats eventually as the stock one ain't much better than nothing at all, but i'm hard-pressed to believe that it could slip around with these new seat pegs. It's taking some serious strength to yank them by hand out after tightening them.

My twist pegs actually untwist some how. They initially lock in solid, and then back off throughout the day. I have to reset them at least once every trip, and they are typically unlocked again when I land. Hopefully they work for you though! Far cheaper than a new seat! A self inflating seat pad makes those stock seats far more comfy too!
