  Hello Everyone!
My name is Curtis and I'm just getting started in kayak fishing. Like so many other things I enjoy doing it's amazing how a hobby can get so out of control. Last year my wife and I purchased a Necky Malibu II Tandem kayak for just some leisurely paddleing on the local lakes ,and as of this week we now have an OK Prowler13 Angler and my wife is cruising a new pink OK Venus 11. (Thanks Outdoorplay, especially Jay for his help!) Since I have never before fished from a kayak the info on this forum has been very helpful, and I thank you all for it! I look forward to meeting ya'll on the water! On a side note: The Wife an I are planning to do some tent camping soon, I was thinking Olallie lake maybe, would this be a good bet for a couple of novices and is the fishing any good there? Also is there good vehicle access? Thanks Again!

Welcome aboard FourWinds.  I believe we have quite a few members along the Oregon Coast these days and I'm sure they can point you to some decent coastal lakes for you to try out.  As for Olallie Lake, I haven't been there myself, hopefully someone here has some info for you.

Hi Curtis,

I'm headed up to Olallie Lake today soon as I can get out of the office.  It is a nice lake, and being a non-motorized lake it's very nice for beginners.  I was up there a couple times last year, one time me and a buddy limited out within an hour on trout (fishing from bank).  Also spent the whole day fishing without anything to show.  I'll let you know how it goes this weekend and what (if anything) works for me.

The roads are rough, but do-able, unless you have a lowered car (which i doubt you'd be sporting kayaks on).  Lots of potholes, and it's gravel/dirt but it's nothing like the roads into Elk Lake.  That last stretch of backroads does take some time though, you maybe average 10-15 mph...

Sorry to hijack the thread, but our founder PolePole isn't going to recognize his old site when he gets back from vacation (lots of new & active members, a fishing map, safety clinics planned, moving forward on planning our Oregon Coast tournament).  Anyone up for a theme change?  :)

Beaver State Kayak Anglers?

We could change to logo to some sort of rampant ninja beaver, sitting on a kayak.  Something like this:

While you're at it Brian, I'd like the color scheme to be changed to a nice royal purple.  Heee Hawwww

Brian, send me the asshat avatar.  I'll wear it proudly.
