Time to introduce myself.  I've lived in Portland since 1987, near PDX and Columbia Slough, 10 min from Gleason boat ramp.  Bought Hobie PA14 in 2010 and it's been a great boat, but under-used. I have tried to equip it first for safety (dry suit, pfd, marine radio, locator beacon etc.) It's a seemingly never-ending process and therefore my boat has quite a bit of safety stuff on it.  Over these last 5 years I have always fished alone.  I would like to change that. At present I won't be able fish due to cracked ribs combined with a very nasty flu. In a few weeks I would like to meet up with other fishermen. My kayak fishing waters have included the Columbia, Multnomah Channel, Salmon River estuary, and various lakes in Oregon. I've got experience trolling salmon from a PB, but only a little (unsuccessful) from my Hobie. I also have walleye fishing on my resume, many hours of it in a PB. Enough intro. Looking forward to sharing info, adventures, camaraderie, and good beer. Thank you one and all. I think I'm involving myself with a great group!

Thanks for speaking-up!

I'm far from you, and worthless as a fishing companion, but there are a lot of NWKA-ers in your area.

Feel better soon, and have some fun.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Welcome retro,

I am new to Portland (been here for about 8 months) and kayak fishing (only about 4 times in a kayak) so I am not going to be a wealth of info for you but at least you wont be alone on the water.  I do most of my fishing Thursdays and Fridays.

We have the Chinook Showdown coming up next Saturday.  I should be out there for that.  I am hoping to be either at the Hawthorne or Sellwood area.

I am in the same boat (no pun intended)...newbie and live close to the slough in NE Portland.  Fished out of the kayak a few times and definitely limited on experience.  Hit me up when you get better, ...would love to hook up for some fishing.

Thanks for the reply. It will probably be a few weeks before I can get back in my boat. I have signed up for the May Day tournament on Tillamook Bay, but I doubt I will be able to participate as a competitor. I'll be down there to help out and to observe.  If you can make it  down there perhaps we can meet and cook up a plan to get out on the water at  a later date. If that doesn't work for you, I suggest a meeting at Hopworks on N. Williams (or any other civilized pub) anytime that we can both  conveniently make it. In any case, I'm sure we should discuss our mutual interests in kayak fishing. Hope to meet you in the near future.
