Where can I find some of these tasty little fish in Alaska? Those smallish land locked Reds.

Hidden Lake.

I want to go try it after ice out for lakers, rainbows, and the kokanee.

There is also a potentially "secret" fishery but I need to figure it out first.  lol.

Not sure how true it is though about Hidden.  A lot of folks call any landlocked salmon a kokanee.  The stocked chinooks are pretty tasty.  I remember catching larger landlocked salmon out of Hidden as a kid. I thought they were kokanee.

Scientific studies say very few populations.  I saw anther powerpoint that said three lakes in the Katmai Park area.

Argh...need to try these places but too dang busy chasing kings and butts...

Check the ADF&G website.  They list all lakes that participate in the stocking program.  Many lakes on the Peninsula are stocked with trout or Kokanee.

Use tiny hooks and cured fish eggs.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

I just talked to my brother about Kokanee and he reminded me of a place that had them up north when we were kids. I am going to check it out this weekend. I 'll report back.

No stocked sockeye on the Kenai peninsula according to f&g. Odd since I thought they stocked hidden. There is a natural run that enters the lake early....shhhh.....secret. Lol.

Excuuuuuuuuuuusssse me.  Let me retract my previous statement.  However, there are a crapload of lakes stocked with coho around here.  Most people I've met on the peninsula refer to Kokanee as any landlocked salmon...heck even some signs at the lakes call them that.

On a side note....first salmon I ever caught was a kokanee.  In New Mexico.

I think Ida lake or Fish lake may have some.
