When I was a kid (1960ish) Copper River, Kenai Lake and Tustumena Lake were rumored to have sturgeon. I know some have been caught in commercial fish nets and everybody knows about the big ones still un caught in Iliiamna. I know folks that have caught them will go to their death beds before revealing where , kinda like the wild (feral over many generations) Alaska turkeys but with the reseach skills on this board we should be able to find out where they are, sturgeons, not the turkeys, I know where those are. I have the Salmon
Sharks, Kokanee and Sturgeons on my kayak bucket list.
Since the halibut harpoon thing died down I am bored.

No such thing as an Alaskan Sturgeon..... total mythology.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Hell of a lot better "I'm bored" post than my crypto currency post. Lol.

Turkeys? Peninsula? I ask because I swear I almost hit one a few years back.

Sturgeon. Highly unlikely. But that's what makes it a challenge I suppose. I'll have to dig around. Lol.

My AK bucket list:
Unassisted salmon shark, shortraker or rough eye rockfish, sablefish.
Personal Chauffeur for Kokatat & Hobie Fishing Team member, Ryu .

Personal fishing sites of Alaska Kayak Angling adventures of my son and I. I am NOT a guide.

I hadn't seen the Bit Coin post. umm. The turkeys that I know about and have seen are closer to me, they have been running around in a small breeding population for over 30 years. I am pretty sure there are sturgeon in the state but the numbers are small and no one fishes for them. Just the little bit of research I have done since I posted suggests that the Russians were getting them on the Kenai Pennisula and that the Situck River area may have some. If Kenai lake had them then maybe Skilak did too.

The turkeys and pheasants escaped from a breeder in the anchor area, an a couple blue slates wandered around chugiak for a while.

Illiamna is the only place in Alaska I have heard of sturgeon in 35 years

The turkeys are closer to/or in the Valley. I think I have a lead on a F&G weir caught sturgeon. I don't want to catch and eat one but I sure  would like to catch one from the kayak. I am trying to get  in touch with my brother as I think I remember one caught on a fish wheel in the Copper River just after the Earth Quake. I asked my mother who remembers much of the family adventures but she doesn't recall any sturgeon.
Side note: I am going for my first kayak fishing adventure in Finger lake tonite.

There was a heritage red turkey that the owners let wander and was killed over in the butte a couple years back, you also have grouse ridge which of all birds they raise pheasants and chukars.

I've caught a lot of things in my copper river fish wheel to include a caribou and a bear cub but never a sturgeon
