Old guy here (55), Oregon native, 5 kids, 6 grandkids. I am a year or two away from retirement (fire/medic). Hobbies are fishing, hunting/shooting and recently started hang gliding lessons. I sold my NR Seahawk a couple years ago once I started fishing the ocean exclusively because I realized aluminum and salt water don't mix well so I intend to purchase a plastic boat after I retire (no flaming if you are a tin can sort of guy - I have owned several and they are just not ideal for me personally since I am hooked on fishing the salt).

In the mean time, my youngest son recommended that I try kayak fishing and once I started researching this, I decided he had a great idea. We narrowed the brand down to Hobie for the Mirage drive. We both thought we would buy PA’s but decided to test drive a few different models. So off to SBPC we went. We demoed PA’s, Revolution, and Outbacks. As you all know better than us, there are advantages and dis for each but we decided the Outbacks would best meet our needs so two were purchased about a month ago. We have been outfitting them and we have only been fishing once on the Willamette for springers without success but we had a great time and I am convinced that this was a great purchase.

We are going to be joining the Tillamook Bay tournament this weekend so we will meet some of you there. I have fished out of Garibaldi a few times in the big boat but most of those trips were out in the ocean so we are not very familiar with the bay so the odds of us catching anything will definitely be a Long_Shot  ;). Hopefully we can figure it out before the end of the tournament. We are open to any advice from the experts that will help our learning curve - both fishing and Kayaking.

 Hey Long Shot,
Glad to see you finally made it happen. (getting on board)
When you get to Tillamook-- don't be shy with people. There will be a lot of knowledge you can gain from a lot of experienced people. Check out how others have rigged their boats and then adapt some of those to your own .  Tactics fishing from a kayak are not that different from a PB. Sounds like you already have some history on your side. That's a big plus by itself.
 See you down there Friday.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent
