Hi All -

Just back to Alaska last year, after a few years abroad, and looking to connect with the Kayaking crowd in Southcentral Alaska.  I love to fish, and with no power boat this year it'll mostly be from my Hobie Outback kayak.  Looking forward to NOT missing my powerboat.    ::)

Have kayaked before, but was new to my Hobie and to Kayak fishing for anything larger than trout as of the fall last year, so I am looking for tips, tricks, and folks to paddle with as the 2015 season kicks off in earnest.

My gear -
Platform:  Hobie Outback (red), with turbo-fin equipped mirage drive, upsized rudder, and Lowrance FF.
Stick:  Shimano Trevala with Avet compact SLX reel, generally with 65b braid as main backing.
Etc:  Homemade harpoon - new for field test this year, small net, Boga grips, and the odds and ends you'd expect offshore.

Locations:  Whittier, Seward, Deep Creek, Anchor Point/Homer.   Lakes tbd.

PM me or reply if you routinely fish the SC AK region - chances are we'll eventually meet on the water!

I am ready for the Third Annual NWKA Alaska Yak Classic. I may hit the Seward Derby just because it's there and hopefully the freezers will be full of halibut, Kings and Reds by then. I am going to fish a bunch in June and July in the salt with a shark trip somewhere as I arrange a PB transport. And I would like to make a lake trout run to Lake Louise also. Valdez perhaps. This will year 2 in my Kayak adventure and I expect it to be awesome.  AKRider I like you Hobie's color.

Akrod, given your 105 pounder off WG last year,  you are the man to beat this year!!!  Sharks, eh. I'm planning a trip too...in January. Your timing sounds better.

Mark Labor Day weekend for Valdez. Odd year returns have been much better than even the past four years. Who knows why?  May hit lake louise on the way but may make a special trip soon as ice goes out in June.

We should do a peninsula get together at a place like hidden lake. We could shuttle and hit the Kenai River and try hidden as well.

I know guys are getting on the water now and I know that likely they are a tad frustrated.  But keep in mind today is May 1. There used to be a time where Memorial Day was a fun get together but still crappy fishing pre kayak. We'd spend three days on the Kasilof hoping one or two in a group of 6 or more would catch one!

It only gets better from here!!!!!
