Howdy,

I'll be hitting lings at a particular breakwall in Magnolia tomorrow afternoon from 4pm-sunset. I wish I could go earlier, but work has me there until then. Anyone want to join me?

Just look for the furry fella in a sombrero.

Same problem - work till 3:30pm, but then I have to drive past Everett for daughter's softball game. Next time so good luck and give us a report.

4:30pm till sunset - zip, zero, zilch, nada. Just a few rockfish, and no tugs that felt ling-like. I did see a fellow on a jonboat pull in a fat 35"er just before sundown and by slow-trolling a purple fly, no less.

But even more entertaining than watching that ling get pulled in was seeing the weekend warriors on their PBs with not a clue in the world of what to do or how to do it. E.g. - a 24-25' bayliner with two men aboard that thought the best way to anchor near the breakwall (in order to fish the structure up close) was to pull up close to the wall, heave their anchor ON THE ROCKS, and then slowly motor in the other direction. The rest of the story plays out like you'd imagine.

Are you fishing live bait? A good way to get live bait would be with a sabiki rig. Go in about 20 ft or so of water and look for vegetation. In no time you will get the prefect sized pearch. They are also very hardy and will last in a bucket all day, just change out the water from time to time.

just got back. nothing to write home about (although i guess something to write NWKA about), but finally got one from that breakwall, at 26". Tried for in all the normal haunts for sand-dabs, to no avail, gave up on that and slow-trolled a purple label herring on a dropper setup. I got mine no more than 5 feet from the wall.
