I recently moved to Tacoma from costal Connecticut, where I did quite a bit of fishing for striped bass and bluefish from my 12' Ocean Kayak.  More recently, I picked up a 14' Hobie Pro Angler, a purchase which, along with my wedding day and the births of each of my kids, has to rank up there among the best days of my life.

While I've been fishing for a few years, I'm new to the fisheries out here, so I'm interested to learn more about spots and techniques.  I've had some success already, but I think that has more to do with beginner's luck than actual skill.  I'd love to meet up with some like-minded Tacoma folk for outings.

Welcome to the south sound! I was an east coast transplant from Cocoa Beach FL back in '08. Things are different here, but once you adjust it's awesome! Feel free to hit me up anytime!

Thanks for the welcomes.  I'm actually planning on heading out somewhere this Saturday, if anyone is interested in rallying.  I went to Deep Lake last Saturday and got blanked (though I was told that it was a pretty good spot).  I was thinking of maybe hitting Crescent Lake just North of Gig Harbor, which, from what I've heard, has been productive of late.

Welcome!

I too live in Tacoma. Clear Lake has been good for kokanee if thats appealing to you.

What are you looking to target? There are a lot of opportunities this time of year.

Pinks will be in end of July through mid August or so. Definitely gotta get in on that if you never caught a salmon before. Pinks may not be the biggest tastiest salmon out there but boy there are a lot of them and they fight like crazy!

I've been hitting the kokanee pretty hard this year, PM me if you are interested in chasing em tasty buggers, I may be heading out on Sat.

Welcome,

The Sound is pretty big so lots of places to fish or just kayak.  Pinks are fun to catch and great to smoke.  Invest in a smoker if you don't have one and get a crab pot too.

Deep can be a good bass lake. Go troll a gold spoon or Vibrax spinner around American for trout. Cast crank baits there from 6-20' for small mouth. There's other options in other lakes, but those two on that lake are all but a sure thing. Would love to join you this weekend, but I'm tapped unless you can go Fri morn.

Welcome to Tacoma, Doc!  I'm a total newb in the fishing (and kayaking but not as badly) arena, but there are a lot of folks around who know their stuff...  There are a bunch around the South Sound.  I'm over in Gig Harbor, paddled a fair amount on this side in the salt water - but I am stuck on dry land for another month in a cervical collar.

Welcome, I'm a transplant as well. I should have been born here although the fishing can be really good in the NE. Cape Cod is one of my favorite places to fish. Ever do it by kayak?

Welcome.  I am over in the Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula area.  I have been hitting Clear Lake and often hit American Lake, and when the salmon start to show I am hopeful to be out in the Sound a bit more this year.  If you need any ideas etc.  I will share what I know. As a transplant that can be helpful in other areas besides kayak fishing too, so don't be afraid to zap a note.

Good fishing.
