LOL.  This should be good.

I have been using a 4wt for the challenge for kings and butts but maybe I will try this for a few laughs...and a few big fish up here in AK.

Good luck!

Rudy, if you hook into a halibut with a barbie pole up there, make sure you post video!  You can find Youtube clips of Barbies with salmon and cod and rockfish, but I haven't seen one with halibut yet...    ;D  Would love to see you haul in a good big flattie on one!!!

Jim

I think it can be done!!!! This is one area where the kayak has an advantage I think.  Might have to harpoon a ten pounder though!!!!!! Stay tuned!  Lol.

You'll probably end up hooking a 50 pounder. Hell......I'd pay to see you land one that size with a "Barbie pole"

Nate-------2 poles ??? This might get interesting  ::)

OK, so I'll assume that since I am the previous years winner (all should bow down before me), that I should volunteer to run this years side event (unless somebody else wants to do it).

I think that the rules should stay the same as last years.

$5 entry into the side bet
1/2 the pot goes for Heaviest fish, the other half to HOW
This style of fishing pole only http://www.shakespeare-fishing.com/Shakespeare%C2%AE-Barbie%C2%AE-Tackle-Kit/1348889,default,pd.html#start=6
No modification to the pole except you can change the line out (most of us use braid)
Verification by video or witness

Anything I'm missing?

Justin nice job getting this rolling this year.

I only have one question as it isn't particularly spelled out, nor have I competed in this challenge in the past.
Plan to this year though.

The Barbie Pole Challenge fish entries are only accepted at the same time ORC fish entries are accepted?
No pre/post ORC fishing entries accepted, correct?

The only fish you can enter are those caught the day of the event.  All of the same tournament rules apply with the exception that you MUST be using one of these "kiddy poles".

You don't have to use the kiddy pole all day, but only fish caught with them, with a witness or video, will count.

I will collect the money the night before at Chinook Bend.  If you won't be at the camp ground and want to join, let me know.

Justin you and I can touch base the night before to ensure all anglers that have entered are marked on the weigh in sheet for easy identification of winner(s).

Almost forgot, you need to tell the people at the weigh in that you  were using your Barbie pole.  I almost forgot last year :D

If a fish can break my barbie pole and 20 lb braided line, it deserves to get away. Diameter wise what's the difference from 20 to 50?

It's probably double the thickness.  I just respooled one of mine.  Dropped it down to 15lb test braid so that I can get a little more line on there.

I'm ready to rock!!

Short vid. It's not the small chicken you can easily see. I still can't believe it. Terrible time first harpoon failure.  Excuse the profanity.

Whether you landed it or not----THAT WAS BAD ASS.

Amazing what the drag on these little poles can do. Thanks for sharing Rudy.

So what finally broke anyway ? Leader, main line , something else ???
