I had a lot of fun this weekend so thank you to all of you kayakers that came out to Whiskey. I learned some lessons, among them:

O the standard cart wheels that came with my Hobie are not suited for soft ground or loose rocks. That first launch was a nice calorie burner and that was before the yak ever touched water.

O tides and tidal swings matter. I launched at a low tide on Friday, trying to catch up to two yakkers already on the water. By the time I got within a half mile of them I caught my first fish and the yakkers beached themselves. Before I knew it I was at the Anchor Point launch and steadily drifting towards Homer. It took a few hours of pedaling to get back to WG. I rested and launched again with another yakker and when all was said and done we were on our way to Ninichik. That trip back also took hours and I'm glad that I'm in decent shape.

O Rudy is the fishing zen, voodoo, guru, master catcher. Nothing else need be said on that.

O the one mile mark from the Anchor River is monitored by LIDAR using Troopers and is measured from the furthest point of land on the lowest tide which isn't accurately reflected on my Lowrance. That's a $110 fine.

O you really only need a kayak, some tackle, a rod, pfd, dry suit and an optional depth finder to catch fish. If you're just starting don't become a "geardo" unless you want to waste money. Lesson learned.

O I love fishing and after having my little 15lb halibut tow me around, I am more determined than ever to catch a 100 pounder. That'll be fun.

Overall, I had a great time. Still can't beat great company around a campfire after a long day. Thanks again to all and hopefully I'll see you this weekend.

I'm attaching the pic of what I found in my halibut's stomach. Apparently he loved crustaceans and sand lance.

That cart would have been more helpful because of the double tired but I am searching for a cart with balloon tires. I netted the smaller halibut and harpooned the bigger one, more for practice than anything else.

If you can find a old barbie jeep the rear Axel and tires work great.

Did you see the 40 something lb halibut Mike caught when you landed? We traveled all that way and he caught it not far from launch. There is another lesson, lol. Are you coming out this weekend?

Great seeing ya again Memkis!!!

I did speak with Trooper Trent a few times and he seemed pretty cool.

A 30 pounder seems to pull a LOT more than 3 times harder than a 10 pounder.  it'll happen.  it's just a matter of time.  it only gets better and bigger form here for halibut.  The reason I love May is that I am a King Salmon fanatic.  So you get both.

hope to se ya next weekend!!!!!
