How did this go? Were the skeeters epic?

Not fish to be found on the lake. A most GORGIOUS day on the lake nonetheless. There were a few skeeters, but not nearly as bad as I have seen them. I picked up a ThermaCell and tried that and seemed to help also.

We packed up before noon and hit Hills Creek Reservoir and got a lot of Rainbow action there. Caught a few holdovers in the 14-16" range too.

That was a great day trip.....even better that we had both the lakes all to ourselves minus 1 drift boat that bugged out early. Sad to see the water level at Hills Creek so low this at this time of year, it is usually full. Non the less caught some fish and had a great time with my good buddy Erik  :banjo:

It looks like it was awesome out on Charleton!
As far as the fishing goes, I hit that lake every year around beginning of Sept. when I am up there mountain biking and camping at Waldo for a week. I have tried a variety of tactics and the lake always has a lot of brook trout, but I haven't been able to catch more than 3 or 4 on a given day (usually less). I'm pretty sure the best producer for me has been a half a crawler on very light line and a small hook casted off of a dead kayak. Other than that, the same deal with a split shot 2 feet up and an extremely slow "troll." That southwest corner is where I catch them.
I was really hoping you guys had the magic weapon and that you could help me out because I've spent many a frustrating evening watching fish rise all over the place and not getting them to bite. I don't really like to eat trout usually, but the Charelton Lk brookies are pink and tasty.
Thanks for the report.

A mess of pan-sized brookies is really high on my list these days. Sorry to hear they don't want to play at Charleton. Wow, that is some pretty water.
Hills Creek used to spit out some really slab-sized crappie back in the late 1970s. Wonder if they are still in there.
