A buddy and I will be out at Silverton Reservoir this Sunday to chase trout. We're both new to kayak angling, so odds are someone is going into the drink at least once.

It was recently stocked and is rumored to have a pretty good holdover population.  Chances are we'll launch around 8:00 and turn in around 1:00 pm.

Feel free to join us!

It'll be our first time there. Have any advice?

We're accustomed to either banking or using my drift boat as a row-boat. Being able to troll opens up new options we haven't tried yet.

Powerbait floating eggs tend to work wonders on new stockers, but I'll probably be throwing spinners because I'm not yet convinced they catch fish. Haha. Might even try trolling one, but I'll have to see how deep/weedy the water is.

Head to the opposite shoreline of the lake from where the boat launch is, pretty much straight across. Work from there away from the dam, around the bend and up into the creek arm a little bit.  Turn around, work back to where you started, rinse & repeat.  Stay about 20 to 30 feet off the shoreline the whole time. Troll small spinners or worm harnesses. That place is pretty darn easy for kayakers to do really well soon after they stock it in my experience.

Thanks for the tips. Definitely going to try trolling spinners.

It was a nice day on the water. We both limited fairly quickly and had a great time exploring the reservoir.

Spent an hour or so slow trolling spinners then switched over to jigging floating powerbait power eggs on a fish-finder rig (cone lead / snap swivel / leader / hook). Works like a charm on warm stockers that are 15-25' down.

With this weather we've been having, I'll have to head out to Hagg soon to chase some warmwater fish!
