So I decided to try out my dry suit today before I head up to Alaska this week everything is great except the neck gasket is going to choke me out like a MMA fighter.
My neck measures 16 inch diameter
I got a pot that measured 20.5 in dia and put the gasket over it for a day and retried the fit it's still way to tight.
So here's the question does everybody here cut the gaskets if you do how much and how do you use a razor or sheers ? Thank you all in advance for you're input and advice I've learned so much from this four and hope I'll be able to contribute to it when I'm not such a rookie .thanks again Ripndrag

Simple question before you cut ... just in case ...

Latex neck or Neoprene?

I understand neoprene cannot be trimmed.

2014 KC Kayaks K12 (the better half's, in camo)

What model suit do you have?  My Kokatat Hydrus 3L SuperNova Angler has latex sleeves and a neoprene neck.  The sleeves can be trimmed but not the neck.   Still need to take it back to Kayak Academy so they can help fit the sleeves.

You should have a neoprene protective layer that sits over the latex gasket. Fold the neoprene neck portion down and trim just the latex gasket.
Don't trim the gasket to the point that it feels comfortable when you first put it on, doing so will lead to the latex expanding when warm and becoming loose. It should still feel tight.

I'd trim the latex until it's snug, but not uncomfortable and choking. Then make one of these neck reliever tubes to hold it off your neck when you don't need a tight seal. Rain storms and potential flipping situations are when you'll want a tight seal. If Alaska has another wet summer like it did last year you'll be living in that suit 24/7.

I used to use one, but now I just trim the gasket.  The neck reliever does work fairly well, though.

Yes I do, whenever I wear my drysuit with the latex gasket.  But I've been reaching for my other one with the neoprene gasket lately.

I use the same one Yaktrap posted a video of, courtesy of Kayak Academy.  It came with a drysuit a purchased from them back in 2007.

The video had no sound, could you point me in the right direction to listen to what they were explaining?

I didn't put any sound on that video to make it shorter. It's just a 9/16" tygon tube with a solid plug (made of wood, plastic or some solid material) about 3" long to connect the two ends. Just measure around your neck and make the length of the tube (aka inside diameter of the tube) about and inch longer. Trim down the length if it's too long. Just connect it around your neck then pull the top edge of the gasket up over it. They're such a small market for them that Kayak Academy just makes them up as they need them and I don't think they're made commercially anywhere.

And awesome pics of Alaska. It's killing me that I'm not heading up this summer.
