For those who haven't read the full story from the guy it happened to here it is.  Really scary stuff!  Incredible timing of the pic!

that story should heighten our awareness for who/what is around us while bobbing a few inches from the surface.....

We are not the top animal in the ocean ... not even close.
With that said, the pinniped population needs to be controlled.

Anyone still feel safe about dragging their fish in the ocean to try and keep them cool?  ;)

Yeah, bleeding out bottomfish I can understand. I'm talking about storing your fish on a game clip or stringer that's hanging in the water the entire time you're on the water. It just seems like one would be asking for it.

It also depends on where you are. Out in the ocean I wouldn't be as concerned as I would at B-10.

Years ago, I had something yank on my game clip that was hanging in the water.    It pulled my kayak down a few inches a couple times and really freaked me out.  I yanked up the fish and looked around and saw a gray shape swim under my kayak.   A minute later a light gray harbor seal popped up and looked at me with an expression that said.. "hey I wanted that".

I don't drag my game clip any more.

Yes,I am one of those idiots that dragged a salmon to keep it cool.  I was fishing west beach off Deception pass and had left my burlap behind. I caught my first silver ever out of a yak and thought I'd go for 2.  About 10 minutes into my next troll I hear a thrashing (I thought I had bonked it pretty well). Pulling the fish back up revealed the teeth marks of a seal. (See pic)Lucky that was all that happened. Live and learn.
