Last weekend, the GF and I made an impromptu trip to Fox Island with the Kayaks. Yes, yes we did cheat and chartered a watertaxi. But time constraints restricted us from making the ~10mile paddle out.  We used Miller's Landing, whom I thought were great. A little rougher with the kayaks than I would have hoped but that is partially my fault since I loaded them with gear prior to getting on the boat, as I was expecting a landing craft and not a skiff. But the price was right and the Captain (Steve, I believe) was very pleasant dude to have coordinated the trip with. We landed on the North side of Fox Island spit on Friday the 19th and fished all day that day and taxied back the morning of 20th, just in time to make a last minute Father's day gift purchase.

Phone pictures really don't justice for this trip, so we went and boat an waterproof camera after the trip because of it. The fishing was a blast; first drop down to troll I caught a nice rockfish and next I hooked what I believe may have been a pink, but was definitely a salmon. Not certain since it was a long distance release. The rest of the day was spent picking up numerous rockfish (pelagic and non's) and tons of cod and pollock. A quillback, a P-cod, and a pollock all made it to the Coleman grill for fish tacos. My gf at one point came up with a double rock on shrimp flies. And we ended up catching a few other odd species (e.g.- lords, etc). We were little timid to try and make it around the tip of the island to the South side of spit due to boat traffic but likely while do it next time we get out there. So we stuck to primarily the northside of the island. We end up seeing orcas, humpbacks, and seal attack that looked more like a shark attack on a salmon. The seal even showed interest in my gf's flasher she was trolling.

When we got back to Anchorage, the kayaks were a bit slimy and covered in fish blood. So I stopped at the Mt View car wash and used there high pressure rinse, soap, and waz. I didn't even have to take the yaks off the roof racks. They looked like new. I would highly recommend giving it a try.

We are looking to go this sunday (Saturday I will be helping with the Campbell Ck Youth Fishery) just to Lowell Pt. paddle around maybe make it Tonsina Ck or North of Caines Head. If you are in the area, let me know. Would love to paddle and fish with some new faces. We are having a hard time staying off the kayaks. Each trip we feel we get a little better, which we are hoping turns into catches of more prized species; timing will help with that I am sure too.

That is great! Seward has always been good to me. Hopefully I can get out there within the next month.
