I'm going to post another possible trip opportunity though I'm not sure it's feasible for most. Adak....

if you can get kayaks there, I can make it feasible.   ;)

I'll let ya know. The only issue is it can blow like 40knts all week. The "birth place of the winds" or as their sign says "of the wind" since the wind blew half the sign away. But my crew caught dozens have halibut. Several over a hundred in a couple of hours. Virgin territory.

It also offers the possibility of some surf and turf action. If the wind has you stuck on shore, chasing caribou around wouldn't be a bad way to spend a couple of days. Getting boats there seems like a challenge though. I'd love to see some of that country though.

It can be awesome.  I run the fuel terminal out in Adak along with some of the port infrastructure out on Adak (thankfully from my office in Anchorage as I run other terminals), and the hotels.   I just need to get kayaks out there!  Won't be cheap...but done right, the kayak transport might be he only significant cost other than the ticket.  Hint: Use your miles...its "instate travel" on Alaska Airlines 737 and they fly combi's (half freighter half passenger...only plane of its kind in the U.S.).

I got enough miles to hit every airport in Alaska ... twice!  I just checked, no problem getting there.  Without miles, I'd be looking at a $1500+ flight from San Jose.

Adak is building a head of steam! I'd be very curious about the timing and logistics of this one. Providing I can make the time and come up with the money, I was hoping to get out to do some caribou hunting there this year. Hadn't thought of the fishing possibilities until it came up on here. Rudy, when do you think the best time to go would be?

I think a lot depends on if you are meat hunting or trophy hunting caribou. Near hunting occurs later in the year when the snow and weather forces them closer to town. By then the weather is too unpredictable. For fishing or u should say weather,  it only gets worse as summer turns into fall.  The main issue is flying kayaks there and back. It will be pricey. I'm going to check on it Monday I hope.

I'm out for either Adak or Kodiak.  It didn't seem like this was picking up steam, so I booked a trip to Yakutat in September to fish silvers in the rivers.  No kayaks, but hey, the town has Yak in the name!

I could hear more...  Kodiak offers a lot of promise... So far,  after two trips,  it's not delivered on that promise... But I'd be interested.  Got my first black tail buck down there.
