hi all, so i went to buy a trident 13 at next adventure only to find out they only have the kayak left in camo. i know for safety concerns that a bright color is preferred, is it still pretty safe if i were to buy the camo yak and a bright pfd and paddle? other wise it is ordering online and waiting. thanks

I personally believe color is a matter of choice not so much a safety thing ,if your flying a flag and get ran over your boat color won't matter much because the dolt driving the pb isn't paying attention.

Lots of people fish in camo boats. I bought red. I wish I would have gone olive green for duck hunting.  My next boat will be green or camo.  A good visible flag and a bright PFD work well.  If you are still concerned, get a blaze orange boonie hat. Insayn has one and you can spot him from outer space.

Don't tell him that, he'll go and cover it with tinfoil.

You can see a bright colored kayak a long distance away, while a dull colored kayak near it fades into the background.  So for visibility at a distance, there are safety advantages to having a bright colored kayak.  On the other hand, when you're a hundred yards away, a dull colored kayak is just about as visible as a bright colored kayak.  But I go with bright colors.   My fishing and whitewater kayaks are all yellow, orange, or red.

I thought of what my boat might look like a mile out in the pacific from a helicopter.. I thought camo, although very fashion forward might not be the best option. Although I ended up with a Bright Neon Green kinda camo boat.. (I told myself a comforting story about how Coast Guard pilots couldn't be color blind to do their jobs.)

I went with that same idea in mind.  The larger the surface area of bright color can only increase the chances of being seen, especially if only out of the corner of someones eye.    A bright flashlight set inside and their red or yellow glow are hard to miss at night.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

With paddle yaks, the 1st thing that catches my eye is the paddle blades moving. Buy a paddle with orange or yellow blades and it will be visible from a long ways away (when you're paddling).

Worst case scenario isn't a bad thing to think about when choosing a kayak color. If you're in smaller waters the rescue scenario isn't so crazy although you might want to think about how many power boats there are in the waters you normally fish. If it's slow and you might want to do some hunting camo would be a great choice. If you're going to be in the salt brighter colors would be best, as PKrick mentioned, when seen from a helicopter or cutter you would be easy to spot. It's really hard to resist the awesome camo colors available but IMO coming home is a big deal at the end of all this.

well picked up the brown camo color as that is the only trident 13 they had with none coming in the near future so i figured i bought a bright paddle  a bright pfd and hat and maybe some reflective tape on it. with a flag when in the salt. very excited!!

Look up SOLAS Paddle Tape. and SOLAS tape in general. I added some to the blades of my T15s paddle, and to the bow and stern on both sides of the yak, plus some on the PFD. Cheap , good, passive insurance.

Bright colors, hopefully Insayn wont blind the ISS crew with that Blaze Orange hat, but you get the idea. Still, when fishing in heavily traffic areas, head on a swivel constantly. We did have one member who still got hit by a power boat, even though he was flagged and heavily, brightly, colored up.

No shame in a neon green yak. Golden Dog has one, the Uyeda brothers from Aqua Hunters had one. Its a good color. I suspect even the neon camo ones that green, orange or yellow would work just as well.
