Well, after having a blast touring and catching a couple of silvers and sablefish in Seward, Susan decided to jump in and join the SOT Kayak crew.

We popped the top on a bottle and christened her new Hobie Outback (Papaya).   Some time in the next few weeks, budget allowing, we will gear it up with FF and misc. gear so she is ready to ROCK the silvers in the derby next month.

Unfortunately NOT ready for the barbie classic *she'll be in Huston anyway*.

I'll let her put up build photos for herself once she registers... for now - the shot on the car when we picked up at AK Raft and Kayak.  Rented first, and got some of the rent back as credit on purchase.

It makes it better when your best friend is with you. Does she hunt too?

Good to see another couple getting into it! Maybe we'll see you guys in Seward.  My wife Uuq,  pseudo-complains about being the only 'girl' out there... (though I think she also likes being bad-ass around the boys...).

Ya you gotta keep an eye on AkRider's significant other. I have to admit I was a little concerned she got a kayak. She could definitely jeopardize my big fish standings.  Lol.  Throw back from a few years back. I understand both fish were hers...right?

Thanks for the reminder Rudy - and YES both those fish were hers.  Best day of fishing on the Kenai we have EVER had for kings.   She slayed two kings between 52 and 56 lbs, one on proxy for my mom, and I killed one at ^55.  All before 6:10 AM - so the guides had to watch us land two before they could put lines out!   (Picture is probably 10 yrs ago?)

Had to buy a new freezer on the way to my dad's house!   Very probably Susan's best fishing day.... a great day for both of us regardless and arguably one we will never reproduce with todays King run concerns.

She's still smiling after seeing that photo.   :)

What does AK R&K charge to rent an outback and dry suit for a day?

Susan had a suit when we rented, so we didn't ask about that, but we got the Kayak and accessories for $100 /day.   NOT cheap, but people thrash rental gear, so I am sure the price is intended to cover wear and tear.    We thought about just renting one for a few weekends for a season until we found out the rental price....
