Hey All,

I just relocated to the Seattle area for a postdoctoral position at UW.  Nice to see that there is a lively community of kayak fishers out here.  I am primarily a fly fisherman, but occasionally fish gear or even spearfish depending on what the quarry is.

Fairly new to kayak fishing, aside from a few trips here or there over the years.  Really looking forward to picking up a used kayak to chase salmonids in the sound, and maybe lingcod and rockfish as well.  The idea of crabbing from a kayak seems awesome too!

Hope to see some of you on the water!  It's been a while since I've had any reliable fishing partners, so it would be great if folks are interested in hitting some beaches together at some point.  I can at least make myself useful by helping to tote gear!

Cheers

Welcome to Seattle.  The pinks salmon will be in Puget Sound later in August and they are fun to catch.  I have a Hobie PA and a TI and will be out in the Sound.  I got my fly pole ready to catch a salmon for the first time.  6.5 million pink is estimated to come into the Sound before heading up the rivers.  Hope to see you out in the Sound.

Check out Pacific City fly shop they can dial you in how to fish for Salmon, Rock fish and Ling with a fly, he also carries salt water fly gear with pretty decent deals.  I have no affiliation with the owner just want to share the wealth of information that he has shared with me.

Woo and Combat Vet,

Thanks for the welcome and info!  Getting ready to give the pinks a go here any day now.

I've been looking around for a used kayak with a nice open cockpit, without too much junk for line to get caught on.  My list so far is OK Prowler 13, Eddyline Caribbean 14, WS Tarpon 140.  Any other ideas?  Primary use would be Puget Sound but might make some forays to the open coast once in a while.

Cheers
