Personal best kokanee

Yesterday I started fishing on the Helena Regulating Reservoir at 6:00 a.m. and had my limit of kokanee (10) by noon.  They were all pretty big, and six of them were over 16 inches.  But one was 18", which is the biggest kokanee I've ever caught.  It was shiny and silver and didn't look like it was getting ready to spawn, except that its jaw was hooked. None of the other fish I caught had a hooked jaw.  I wonder if this fish somehow survived spawning last fall.

Nice one.  It's a good year for big kokes.

Just an early bloomer but a really nice fish!  The last few kokanee I caught were starting to show signs that fall is coming.  Seems like the changes start with the starting of the elongated head thing.
