Has anyone attempted to spear fish cook inlet?   I have all the scuba gear, and thought I would never use it here...but the waters really aren't much colder that what I dove in Washington(especially during the summers).

I wouldn't mind hand selecting a halibut from Whiskey Gulch.

Dangler,
I have free dove it twice( no tank)Once off the spit at lands end and once at wg. Both were testing the waters attempts and I stayed close to shore in about 15 ft of water. Temp wasn't bad, visibility was between 10-15 ft, enough to spear . I'd like to shore dive WG again. With your tank you'd have a better shot. I Have some ideas about how to approach it. Not sure what time of year the viz is best, probably winter time. I've seen it pretty damn clear out there earlier this summer.

Nick,

From what I could see from my yak, the vis was good and got better especially if you get farther away from shore.  Im used to diving in Washington, where vis is far from perfect. Tried to find a cheap tank on craigslist, and somehow got ahold of the owner of last frontier diving...she seemed really cool so i'll go out with them sometime.

Im not sure if I will get out and try this year, but I will start gathering gear for next year for sure!

Yes away from the intertidal shore pound zone it's much cleaner. I'll be ready next spring to give it a solid go. Who knows, maybe this fall even .
