Awhile back I reported on this product before I used it:

Here's the update:
One bonk on a solid chinook head and this nifty gift exploded.  I didn't even hit that hard.  Don't waste your money on this P.O.S.  And warn those Father's Day gifters!

A good idea. But knife should be a full tang. 7/8'' wide by 1/8'' thick. And oak as the bonker.

I use an old oak Nunchaku that belonged to some kid named B. Lee. Dang if that sucker doesn't do the trick. Lip 'em, grip 'em, whack 'em, rip 'em and string 'em up!

My little Kershaw pocket knife does the trick and fits easily in my life vest pocket for easy access. Had it for a good 20 years...

I got an old "Alaska" wood bonker and keep a pair of forceps/scissors on an arms length lanyard on the pfd and it works great for pulling hooks as well as cutting gills and line.

And oak as the bonker.

I got a myrtle one from, IIRC, Wobbler. It settles the arguments very effectively even with bigger ling cod.

Fancy stuff... I have a piece of rebar steel with a wire loop taped on with electrical tape...
Junk Jigs "BEST USE OF ACTUAL JUNK" category - "That tape should have been a prized possession and not junk. That will be a collectors item in 30 years!” & “There sure is a lot of junk in there.”

I made mine from a piece of church bench oak. It came from the old church in Seaside built in 1914. Was given part of a bench. Made a table some knife handles and my bonker.
