I was invited to stay in a cabin/ yurt out at halibut cove this weekend. I'll be taking the hobie for sure on the taxi. Trying to figure out what gear to bring, and who / where to target fish ( rockfish, butt, salmon). I'm told the lagoon has salmon in it this time of year. Anyone got experience over there?

We've caught kings right outside halibut cove. The rocks will hold smaller rockfish as well. Have never been inside Halibut Cove. My consultant owns a big chunk of that area. I'll try and get some Intel.

The fact that it is called halibut cove is a good sign right . . .

Im very interested in hearing what you can catch out there!  I wanted to take a paddle over there from Lands End...it doesn't seem that far.  Let me know if it'll be worth it!

I'm looking for 20"+ rockfish and big lings!!

Are you in the Yurt that is actually inside of the lagoon? An odd feature for sure.  Over 60ft deep but cut off from the rest of the Bay by a very shallow and narrow section.

I wonder if a kayak can even make it through at low tide? Charts say only navigable at high tide and cautions swift current. I think big low tides this weekend. Might look around the gravel beaches for steamers and butter clams though I have heard of some concerns with Shellfish poisoning.  Though I'd think you would have herd it by now if it was an issue in Homer.

I've heard there are pollock in the lagoon so I guess there might be other fish.
