Who's going to WG? I'm thinking of making the drive tomorrow night and returning Sat night. I'd be solo if I go. We got ambushed with some kid duties, but Uuq is taking it on and letting me go if I want!

We are badly short on halibut. I have yet to get out and get a good one. MAK's report from last weekend gives me hope. But it won't be long before they are gone!

It's looking a little rough this weekend, but I think the worst of it will have passed by Friday night. Sunday might be my only day to get out this weekend, would you guys mind posting weather and sea condition updates for wherever you kayak on Friday and Saturday?

Will do. I'm eyeballing Saturday...regardless of weather or seas. It'll be just me (and the halibut...I hope).

Saturday looking much better than Sunday as of right now,  I have my ten yer old son so looking really hard at whether we can go or not.  He is pretty capable on a kayak so I think we will be ok.  9am low tide so I'd like to hit it an hour or two prior but that sounds awful early.  Will keep ya updated on my plans.

I gotta keep the "State Fair" out of any discussion on "things to do".  I know other folks enjoy it but I view it as a system to screw the locals after they get done screwing the tourists all season.  Kids have fun on the rides but they are short and over priced...and dangerous.  Food quality has gone down in recent years it seems.  You can get 99% of the stuff at the fair for half price and without paying parking and entrance fees anywhere else.  Bah Humbug!

Here's the best indicator for swell size I've found.  Could be zero knts and still have 6 ft waves if a storm has just gone by.

Size but also direction.

I totally agree on the fair. .... But the kids love it.

I need someone to do a seminar on how to read all that stuff,  Rudy.  I'm happy (finally) feeling confident on the tide + current motion.... But add in figuring out swells and waves based off this data... and I'm in a foreign territory.

I am going to the Alaska State Fair, I'd rather be fishing anywhere but it's my daughter's birthday weekend and I'm doing Dad duty. She is 17 ( so is my granddaughter, God played a joke on us)  and does not want her mother or I around for anything special except cash. She is a great kid and will on her way to college this time next year so I really don't mind. Next weekend I'll be in Seward /Homer on 9/2 through 9/7. I heard that Obama may be in Seward so Homer maybe the best bet. I am going to hotel camp I think but will drag the Jumping Jack just in case. I'd like to put a few Black Cod and Silvers in the freezer so Seward is a bit ahead in the coin flip. Hope to see a few of you folks somewhere.

I wound up at the Fair,  too.  Seems like everybody but Kardinal was there.  Man.  Crowded. But,  kids had fun,  and the wife didn't have to go solo.  Next weekend for sure.  Come swell or high water (see what I did there...).  :-)

Two massive take downs that peeled off dozen of yards of line that didn't hook up. One shark. Ugh.
