A little bit of rain and a little nip in the evening air tells us that it is getting time again for our best Heroes On the Water event of the year.

09/19/15 at Nehalem Bay State Park at 09:00.

Targeting salmon and crab.

Last year was a wild ride. Hearing those school girl giggles turn into something entirely different when a fish clears the net hoop. Priceless.

We have an 11:30am low tide. We should be able to get folks paired, outfitted, and rigged and catch the last of the outgoing.

Make room for some crab gear. It would go nicely with the fish donated by the SBAOTD crew we are going to fry.

You know you can count me in! I can bring the big tuna and the propel as well as a costco plastic table. Will see if I can wrestle up a pop up canopy and the father in law to help on shore. I also got a mess of crab bait I need out of the freezer for hunting season.

Sounds great - I'm in, finally no conflicts with HOW event this summer!  Last year's Nehalem Bay event was absolutely amazing - hoping for a repeat...

Mojo, Sam, thanks for signing up. For this event we could really use all hands on deck. The number of Vets we can take out is limited by our number of volunteers, especially for this event. We need on the water volunteers that can keep eyes on two Vets at a time (while fishing). You'll be responsible for helping keep them safe while trying to put them on some salmon. For every volunteer we can take out two Vets. So ideally we'd like to get 6-7 volunteers for on the water. We have the boats we just need a few more guys to jump in.

Count me in. I have never done a HOW event but would really like to help out. I have fished/crabbed Nehalem last year. Plan on trying tomorrow, and the weekend of the 12th & 13th, so might as well make it a 3 weekend fish/crab fest.
Looks like there is still a couple dozen camp sites at Nehalem Bay Park campground for the 18th - 20th. Anyone camping there that weekend?

Thanks Noah.  I mentioned to Anthony - my wife and daughter may be there as well, able to assist with on-shore stuff.  Looks like we'll be doing to whole weekend at the coast, with all of Saturday for HOW.

I'm in. You need an Oregon salmon and crab license, correct? It's trolling for salmon, correct?

Thanks! Scott

Great, thanks Scott. Yes, you need an Oregon License and a salmon tag. The shellfish is optional if you want to drop a pot. As a group we're going to focus on salmon.
