I feel like Phil Collins when I by say "I was there, and I saw what Ryu did..." but it was really cool.  The kid was amped up for a long time... As I would be. It was an awesome catch.

That's one of my favorite reports ever! I am so anxious to get out and get some halibut from my kayak. Hopefully soon!

Thanks everyone!  What a cool deal to finally get my kid out on some challenging fish. He still wants to fish trout and pollock but he's slowly gaining the patience to tackle these larger fish.

As I said in the video, a fat dad definitely stabilizes the kayak. A drag setting that might be ok for 180 pound dad might be too much for a 75 pound kid.

The fish definitely tipped the kayak past my comfort level though with a drysuits he was never in any real danger.

It's cool to witness how the fish pulls him around. Right after harpooning it, I was amazed how fast the halibut towed his kayak sideways. Because it's feature-less it's hard to tell when it's just you.

Take a kid fishing!  The kayak is a great platform!!!

Wow, what a great catch!  You have got to get a print of that "meat blanket" (love that term...) hanging on your wall for him.  That is a priceless moment!

Thanks!  He is with his mom this weekend so I will be alone.  At least that little bugger won't out-fish me this weekend!  I'll be out there...somewhere....

Monkey see monkey do.

I can say that not just because he is my son but he was born in the Asian astrology year of the Monkey....

He definitely is my kid in both the good and bad traits I have. Lol.
