Green was what I had in a rattle can  :banjo:
No contact points it's totally self contained runs on 3 AAA and is water resistant. Going to buy a couple extra so if it fails just twist on a new one.

Contact points being battery terminals, switch contact surfaces if accessible ...  We all know how salt water loves to mess with things that are "resistant"
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

+1

Water resistant is NOT water proof.  And you just drilled a hole in it to attach to the PVC.   Be sure to coat that bolt with dielectric grease as well, unless it is SS.  Salt water WILL find it's way inside no matter how well you protect it.  So, I would apply the dielectric grease liberally to all metal bits, battery ends, switches, etc.  Even apply dielectric grease to any seals it has to make it water resistant.   You want cheap, but also functional for more than a trip or two, right?

Nice thing about the hole is its in the bottom plate that only holds the flip up clip that I removed so no penetration into the battery housing or electronics. And copy that on the battery contacts. But at $8.99 I will pick up a few more and put them in my fishing cupboard.

Ok I have had some interest in my lights from guys so if someone wants one and doesn't have the time or tools to put it together let me know and I will throw one together for you for cost which will depend on the type of mount you want to the kayak pm me your number to discuss that, and I can paint it the color of your choice ( within reason). As it stands the Scotty mount base light will be $30 because Scotty won't sell just the male bolt on end so the ff mount is around $15-$18 unless someone on here has a 3D printer and wants to crank some out?

If you are doing a production run, then I would suggest you have a jig tube that slips over the cut off end of the Scotty part and has a hole centered in the top (aka thick washer tack welded to the tube) to align your drill bit perfectly every time.

Otherwise, if your eye/brain calibration can measure accurately, just eyeball it.  ;)

The Scotty mount is on sale at Austin Kayak for $15.99. Was just looking at it to mount my fish finder. Nice idea for a light.

Does anyone have one of these? If so is it hollow on the bottom and if so how deep?

Ok frustrating is setting in from Internet searching affordable mounts if someone wants one with the Scotty mount as put together $30 (if I get a cheaper post to work I'll pass on the savings)if you want one with the ram ball $25 you can get what height you choose within a few inches (I'm not perfect) as well as basic color of choice and one could put a couple of ss eye bolts on it to hang a flag. If you want a slip in recessed rod holder mount let me know what diameter of PVC fits your tube and the depth of the tube. Should be around $20 for that. Let me know and we can work it out fairly easy.

Mojo, just for giggles try this.

If you want to keep your light contraption price on the down low, skip using the Scotty male part altogether and just use 1/2" Sched 80 (gray) PVC.  I made a rod holder/roll bar for my T-13 years ago and used the Sched 80 1/2" PVC to install into Scotty deck mounts.  The 1/2" PVC pushes in nice and snug.

If you need it to twist and lock, then add a small stainless screw near where the Scotty has the little locking nubby thing.

That's so easy it's INSAYN. Need to price the gray scheduled 80 but that would put it under $20 if anyone wants one.
