Another record, less than a week later...

After grinding out several uneventful hours anchored in the big C again, I decided to put on the wetsuit and search for "second hand" gear.  After a nice underwater visit by an otter, I came across this mondo clam.  Brian, what species is this one? From the marks on my kayak it measured about 5 inches. Now I think I'm stuck with the curse of the clam skunk!

I believe that's an Oregon floater.  A freshwater mussel.

It could also be a western floater or one of several other floaters.

Kyle, try going clam fishing and see if that helps. I know the feeling I got to jump on a no to catch salmon. Also, did you find any gear?

Brian, I think you nailed it!  The photo looks right. I had no idea these existed. I'm surprised the river otter checking me out underwater didn't get it first.

Yes JoJo Potato I got some gear.  I always seem to find flashers but this time I got a bunch of wobblers, floats and only one flasher.

Nice way to get more gear, and clean the river bottom. I really need to get into that how deep do you usually need to go?

I spent the morning nestling up to a hog line near the Gleason ramp and had two strikes but nothing more than this little freshwater clam.

You can find gear down five feet but there's usually more down to 25.
