Hunting seat cushion mate be another good alternative as they are usually waterproof for sitting in the rain waiting all day for a deer to walk bye just as its too dark to get a good shot off! Sorry for the vent ( Mother Nature hates me).
Shoot, opening weekend this year I spend 6 hours on a hillside in the rain. A seat would have been nice. I kept working further under branches.

Any thoughts on a memory foam or gel cushion seat to increase comfort on the water?

Keep any seat pad as thin as possible.  The further your rear end is from the bottom of your kayak, the less stable your kayak will be.

Memory foam is open cell foam, so it would turn into a big squishy sodden blob under your butt.  Check out the kayak seat pads available at NRS at http://www.nrs.com/category/2716/whitewater-kayaking/back-bands-seats .

Thanks for the link, I knew the memory foam is open cell but if comfortable enough I'd throw it in a garbage bag if I had to.

Here is basically the seat I have, looks like a surf to summit knock off. May be enough for a lighter person, but I'm over 200 and that seat kills me within an hour or two.

You've been given a couple of very good options for new seats.  I have no experience with the FeelFree Kingfisher (http://www.austinkayak.com/products/8701/FeelFree-Kingfisher-Kayak-seat.html) but all of the pictures of it look like it has much more padding than your current seat, and may have a bit of elevation under the thighs.  I have no experience with the Surf to Summit GTS Expedition seat, either, but DWB123 is usually a reliable witness  ;) and it looks like it has a lot of padding in the butt region.

The Wilderness Systems AirPro Freedom Elite seat in my Tarpon (http://www.austinkayak.com/products/9221/Wilderness-Systems-AirPro-Freedom-Elite-Kayak-Seat-Low.html) is very comfortable and allows all kinds of adjustments, and you can adjust the height of the thigh supports.

All of these are less than $200, and look like they could be a direct replacement for your current seat, but if that's still too steep (and I get that) you might want to try one of the butt-pads sold for canoes, since they're waterproof and most are not bulky - and they're reasonably cheap, too.

Another good but more costly alternative might be one of the self-inflating camp seats like those from Therm-A-Rest.  They're waterproof and are comfortable on my butt on the ground.

But... you might want to test a bit of extra lumbar support before going for more butt-padding because it's easy for our butts to slip slightly forward and out of position in a kayak seat because of our leg extension/foot position, even when we think we're sitting up straight.

Pedal yaks excepted, of course, since you're more-or-less pushing your butt back into alignment whenever you pedal...

Memory foam would weigh a ton when wet.  Literally.  And that stuff takes for-ever to dry out.

I don't believe the Wilderness Systems airpro seats can be installed in just any kayak. I'm pretty sure they're W.S.-model specific. Which is a shame....cause they're amazing.

I absolutely appreciate all input and links. I should have upgraded to the kingfisher seat when I first ordered my boat. It was a big price without upgrades for me though. I do believe the seat angle is too flat but I'm greener than a hungover frat boy on his first ocean boat trip. Primarily looking for an in between until I get a proper seat. So those links are very helpful

Get a self inflating seat cushion. The amount of "firmness" can be adjusted. I broke my tailbone (but didn't spill my beer) many years ago. Sitting in any chair for an extended period of time is painful for me. I could barely last 3 hours when I first started kayak fishing. I went down to Next Adventure and bought a self inflating cushion years ago. I still use it to this day. I can't remember the brand but it is similar to this one http://www.amazon.com/Therm-A-Rest-6436-Trail-Seat-Olive/dp/B00HANX6JM/ref=sr_1_2?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1450396775&sr=1-2&keywords=self+inflating+seat+cushion . I bought the $130 Apex seat first, but that wasn't much better that what I had before. I have since purchased a second self inflating cushion which I put on the seat behind my back and now I am in heaven. If a self inflating cushion can make an older style Hobie seat comfortable, it will make any seat comfortable. Next also has one under their store brand that is very comfortable, too. They gave them in the Captain's bags at the Springer tournament last Spring.

Here is the Next Adventure brand one:

Best $5.99 you can spend for your butt. If you don't like it, I will buy it from you. I use mine for my back. It keeps the tank well from pushing into my kidneys due to the constantly slipping Hobie seat "tightening" straps.

Also, damn that picture got big in my previous post.

Also, this will barely (and unnoticeably) raise your center of gravity.

Probably not.  It's blowing up a gale and raining, and I was too sissy to swim out to the garage to check how it installs.  My bad.

Thanks for the link, looks like I got the last one in stock. I got a few of their inflating pillows as well for 4.99 each. Figure good for camping or lumbar support.
