Hello, I bought a low back boat seat from Cabelas with hopes to put it on to my vibe sea ghost. Well it arrived and I'm not sure where to start. I was thinking about building a pvc frame where two pieces can go into the scupper holes at the seat. I was also debating elevating the front of the seat enough to slide a utility box under and out of the way.

Some stock pictures of my boat and the seat.

Replacing your kayak's standard seat with the Cabela's boat seat will reduce the stability of your kayak, and raising the boat seat so you can store things under the seat will further reduce the stability of your kayak.  Before you put any effort into figuring out how to mount the seat in your kayak, I suggest that you figure out how the seat will affect the performance of your kayak.  Install the stock seat, and do some leaning exercises to figure out what it takes to flip the kayak over. This time of year, you may want to do this in a heated swimming pool.  Then strap the Cabelas seat temporarily in place and try the same exercises.  Keep in mind that your kayak may flip over much more readily when you are out on the water getting tossed around by waves, and making unexpected movements while fishing.

I enjoy outfitting and customizing my kayaks.  But I don't think that replacing your kayak's stock seat with the Cabelas seat would be a good idea.  Sorry.

I think PVC frame is a good idea, it will work. But I also see no point in this seat at all. I seen your videos on YT and as I see you have a FF Kingfisher seat. I do not know why you wanna install a boat seat instead of it. IMO that Kingfisher seat is awesome, just the best seat I have ever sit on. I never seen Cabela's seat in real, but I guess it will be a problem to flip back your kayak with it.

Maybe a pro angler or native mariner in your future?......instead of that, it seams like a bad idea sitting that high off that boat. JMHO

That's not me in the picture, so they aren't my YouTube videos. The kingfisher seat does look nice, however I have the standard seat and the seat bottom is uncomfortable to say the least. My emotion stealth angler is more comfortable with the hard formed seat and the cushioned back rest. I think part of the issue is the angle for my legs. Unfortunately I don't have money for a pro angler, plus it would be too heavy to fit on top of my car.

The boat pictured is the intended target? Still too high unless your a tightrope walker. Just my opinion I have a big tuna and a mariner that both have beach chair style seats, the tuna has high seating ability at 36 inches wide I won't use it. If your sitting even two inches higher in the boat then it's designed for your risk of a flip are greatly increased.  But again that's just my humble opinion.

When Hobie went from stiffened nylon seats to lawn-chair-style seats in the 2015 Revolution and Outback, it lowered the plastic in the seat area by a couple of inches so paddlers' rear ends are in the same position with respect to the keel of the kayak in the new seat as they are in the pre-2015 stiffened nylon seat, and so paddlers' butts would stay dry.  If you stick a thick upholstered boat seat and the mounts for that seat on top of the seat area of your Sea Ghost, your butt will be many inches higher than it is in the stock seat, which will make your kayak less stable.

Here's a story:  I'm also a whitewater kayaker.  Us whitewater kayakers are always looking for the newest and hottest kayak so we can do the newest and coolest tricks, so we borrow new boats and try them out whenever possible.  Many years ago I talked a dealer into letting me demo the Prijon "Alien," which the dealer touted as being the newest and hottest kayak then available. Early in the demo trip I ran a small rapid, and while running through the Class II tail waves, I fell over.  Which was odd.  So I went to roll up, and it was like a big hand jammed me back upside down.  Which was quite odd.  I tried to roll up about seven times, but each time the big hand jammed me back into the water.  So I finally bailed out, which was extremely odd, because it had been years since I swam out of a kayak.  So I dragged the miserable kayak up on shore and inspected it, and noticed that the seat was mounted on a pedestal of ethafoam about 3 inches thick.  The dealer later told me that this creative feature was intended to increase the paddler's leverage for doing freestyle tricks.  I didn't buy the kayak.  When I saw somebody on a river in a Prijon Alien, I would ask them if they had any difficulty rolling the kayak, and the paddler would admit that the kayak was real unstable, and that they swam out of it occasionally.  After a year or so, all the Prijon Aliens disappeared from the rivers, never to be seen again.  A victim of a bad design choice, namely mounting the seat too high.

I know that elevating my seat height will decrease stability some, but I'm needing something so my rear and legs don't hurt within an hour out there. It's hard to keep fishing when constantly adjusting my legs or holding myself up to give my rear end a break.

My 2 cents, i have the optional boat seat in my Santa cruz Raptor and it is very comfortable and stable. Maybe instead of changing seats you need to look at changing yaks. Art

If your legs and butt are getting numb, tingling,  painful,  it's sometimes as simple as doing more cardiovascular exercise.  Increased blood flow reduces that type of pain.

Another suggestion is to adjust your seat so you're sitting erect and your weight is on the bottom of your butt, which is how you should be sitting when paddling so you can put plenty of upper body rotation into your paddle strokes.  If you have your seat adjusted like a Barca-Lounger, so you're lying back with most of your weight on the back of your hips, your butt will get numb.

I do sit straight up, especially when paddling. I am sort of stuck with the kayak I have unless I can sell it, even then I'll still need do save up for something else. I think the angle from seat towards where the legs go is fairly flat, my emotion has more of a dropped seat so I guess more support under upper thighs and was comfortable. The problem was I sat too low in the water and was in a puddle the whole time. Perhaps elevating the front of the seat with a pool noodle or something may help
