After a frustrating trip of being blown off  Paxton and Summit Lakes and only one small Laker for the effort. Enroute to Fairbanks and four stops of more wind whitecap. I was gun-shy from having to chip ice of the yak at Summit Lake. The only choice open was Hard Luck Lake (Harding). I Had a new tactic I've been planning to use on Paxton for 6 years. I only had two passes in a likely spot before calling it a day. No hook-ups but what I first thought was a Bever turned out to be a Burbot. Rolling right at the kayak, it's head had to be wider than 10 inches and had a hell of a gut on it. I could not estimate lenth because amazingly it did a tight roll strait back down to the weeds. It was worth it to get that close to a fresh water fish that looked like it swallowed a duck.

Can't help myself. Going out again for a short trip tonight. Would not mind catching a Burbot the size of a Ling Cod.
