Hello Everyone,
Retirement window is opening and I'm ready to jump out of it. Saving money while looking for my first boat.
I use to kayak fish from my fiberglass white water kayak off Normandy Park in Puget Sound as a lad. Navy,
college, job, wife, kids, kids college education, daughters marriage...now maybe some time for me
Cheers
    :)

Welcome back.  I grew upon Des Moines and went to the marina when I was a kid.  Currently living in Edmonds.  I can retire, but still enjoying my work.  Are you planning to move back for retirement?

Welcome! How is the fishing in that Normandy park? How is a launch?

Hi Woo,
Would love to move back to Puget Sound area, wife is resistant. Spent alot of time fishing Oregon and Wash. when I was younger and lived up there. Still have family in the area so probably just visits

Hi Eugene,
As I remember (45yr ago) starry flounder, some sea-run cuts and rock fish when I could find the drop off. Didn't have a fish finder back then. Read about your adventure at Nisqually

Eugene,
The launch at Normandy Park is private for residents of NP only. I lived there back in the day. Low tide its a bit of a trek to the waters edge on a pebble beach, high tide is easy when there aren't any wind waves
Cheers

Halibutboy - thank you for information! I just want to discover new launches and try new places around Puget Sound. Looks like there are should be two public launches around: from Three Tree Point North and from Saltwater State park. I haven't tried them yet - it is what I found in internet.

Eugene,
Try the immediate north end of the Des Moines marina for access. There is a small park with public beach access, have seen kayakers use this for launch, pebble beach is the substrate. Many years ago I fished the Sound side of the marina breakwater in a canoe and caught many fish, just can't remember what they were.
Good Luck

Halibutboy - ok, thank you! I will check this place someday, accordingly to regs there are some closed areas, as I understands it is only 100 yards around the park and pier.

Three Tree Point has very limited parking.  Those water access areas are mariners access for public use.  There are many of them on the shores of Puget Sound.  The access points are from the old days when ship came into the Sound to resupply there food before heading out to sea again.

The ship would send a crew from their ship on a row boat and they would follow the "Indian Trail" (still exists) from 3 Tree Pt. to "Old Burien" to the "Feed Store" (builing exist, but not as a "Feed Store") to buy supplies for the ships journey to Alaska or where ever.

3 Tree Pt. Marine Access had a boat ramp which the local community tore up and replaced it with bolders to prevent others from using as a public access to go onto their beach front.  There is more to that story too, but it gets political and ugly.

The other spot to launch is Seahurst Park.  I have not been to that beach since the sea wall was replaced and was not into kayak fishing back then - will have to check it out sometime.  If anyone of you locals reading this -please let us know.
