Took a day off.  Why not.  Got there right after high tide. In the water and fishing by 1 pm.  I decided to use red label herring since I hadn't caught many pollock.  Today, I caught zero!  Amazing.

Start with my conventional gear.  Actually I stole the gear from my son Ryu's Rod.  Managed two in less than an hour.  It was cloudy and the water murky but I decided I would finally try out my gropro mount I installed on my donwrigger ball.  The video is pretty murky.  I need to make a few adjustments.  You can see it a lot better on a bigger screen than a phone screen.

I used my Gloomis 4'6" GL2 Ultralight rated for 1-4 pound test.  1/32 oz to 1/8 oz weight. Ok, so I cheated and used left over 20lbs braid from my Barbie attempts.  I can't tie anything thinner than that anymore!!!  Worked great.  I think you can use a Barbie rod all day long when they are shallow.

All the fish came in less than 30ft of water.  half the fish were in less than 15 ft of water.  I had the down rigger set at 10ft.  Don't tell anyone, but they are catching them surfcasting off the beach.  Don't need a wall of lead developing here.  Haha.

So the fish aren't huge but bigger ones are there according to the locals.  Still 4 ten pounders makes the trip worthwhile.  Though I think I am going to need to figure out how to add some excitement to this fishery when they are small and plentiful like they are now. Ended the 3 hours fishing 6 for 8.  Kept 4 with a proxy.  released two on the ultralight.

My favorite video you've done. I like the behind the back Globe Trotter moves. I'm definitely bring the fly rod next time. Glad you had such a great day.

 Another super cool video Rudy.
Looked like you could almost fish off the balcony at Land's End.
How fun to   catch those kings on an ultralite.
I have to say your net jobs are really smooth compared to some earlier attempts you have shown us.
Great job and thanks for the share.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

F'n Rudy!  I'd hate you if I didn't know what a nice guy you are.

I second the vote for your behind the back move!  Awesome video.

That UL action is pretty fun!
What's this proxy fishing you speak of?  Is that something we can do here in Oregon? :police:

Thanks all.  C'mon up!  Let's fish!

In Alaska, we are allowed to "proxy fish" with the right paperwork for people over the age of 65 or the disabled.  I fish for my father.  He get's the fish.

It does come in handy in other ways.  For example, we have rules that in many rivers says "You kill a fish, you cannot fish the rest of the day."  I can keep my first king (mine) and then instead of quitting,  I can continue to fish for my dad's fish...even if I intend to release them.

The most mesmerizing part for me at least...the underwater section only.  Some parts slowed down and zoomed a little.

Nice rod work, Rudy.  You put that UL gear to the test.  Thanks for the video!
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.
