After hibernating most of the winter I decided to finally start rigging up my outback. I decided to go with gear tracks in various places in order to have flexibility with my gear. I used 2 X 4" Gear trac w/backing plate and 2 X 12" gear trac w/ backingplates.

I mounted the 4" tracks in the forward trays on the outback and I mounted the 12" tracks in the rear trays to my right and left.

I upgraded from a lowrance elite-4 to a Lowrance Hook-5, as I understand it the hook-5 is just a rebranded elite-5 chirp.

I used the hobie fish finder installation kit, but soldered the wires instead of crimping.

Just got my laketroller downrigger hooked up. Also another thing I noticed with the new Hook-5 is it only has 2 cables instead of having the useless (for us) data cable.

Looks good! Keep in mind you'll need to make re-entry as easy as possible so make sure you don't crowd your cockpit too much.

The left side of the kayak will be almost empty except for a rod holder. Ill have to see if this interferes too much with re-entry. If so the rod holder is easily removed to allow quick re-entry.

will the rod holder and the fish finder fit on the same gear track? don`t use the single tab base for ur rod holder get the one that uses 2 tabs. is that a gearhead mount? i had same thing, tab sheared off and almost lost my rod which was in the holder and the holder itself too.

Dampainter thanks for the tip on the tabs shearing. Now my dilemma becomes if I can set up a rod directly to my left because the 4" geartrac in the forward tray wont accommodate the 2 tabbed mount.

Build a custom mount not only challenging but rewarding knowing you made it.

Will a couple of mighty mounts fit in there? That's my plan w/ mine, but not sure if they'll fit the small area. I only had my ff set in the small 4" geartrac.

2 Might Mounts wont fit, thats the set up I have. Am leaning toward purchasing one of these to give it a whirl:

http://www.stealthrodholders.com/collections/shop/products/2-point-track-mount-coming-soon

I did find that I can use my existing 2 mighty mount system for my rod directly to my left, still allowing enough room to peddle. I also think that the single tabbed scotty gear head mount should work fine for the downrigger since I am only using at 4lb weight. Might tether it just in case.
