Did any of you upgrade your hatch in your older Outback to the larger, rectangular hatch?

If so, any issues with the seal or your legs getting in the way of the lid being opened?

I really wouldn't mind this upgrade.

I've done a couple on the 15' a friend has a 14' and the hull is a bit different, the flat area isn't the same, I'm not positive that it will work. You may want to compare to a newer model

I think the issue w/ the older outback is the seat and front pocket will be in the way. Plus the hull design. It might work, but doesn't look to be enough room for it.

Cut a stiff paper template and try it on the top and inside to see if there will be any clearance issues or structural problems ? Just a thought  ???

According to this review, should fit older Outbacks - your 2013 may even have indentations where the corners should be:  http://www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/topic/511483-rectangular-hatch-in-outback/

I have it in my 2015 Outback and really like it.  I bought both the tackle management system and the bucket.  I use the bucket only.  No leaks at all.

I don't have any issues with my legs being in the way.  It's pretty easy to shift/bend/whatever to get access.  I have seen some references to people installing with the hatch rotated 90 degress - long edge parallel to the kayak - to reduce leg/hatch conflict.

It's supposed to work. I was just hoping somebody on here had done it already.

I don't know for sure if it'll fit a 2013 Outback, but I think I remember reading about it on the Hobie forum that it will. I installed a square hatch on my 2015 Outback.  This mod makes the outback so much more enjoyable.  It's nice to have more room to store tackle close by and be able to get at easy.  I use the deep bucket.  The accessibility to the hatch is good.  With my knees bent , you can reach in and get whatever you need.
