I've been planning on hitting Homer tomorrow and staying maybe through Saturday but the weather reports are all over the place.

The ocean forecast is calling for 20k winds with 4-6ft seas and the weather is 60% precipitation on  Fri and 70% on Sat.

Is anyone thinking about heading down?

It's going to be a new kayak rigging and fish eating weekend for me.  Good luck, if you make it out.

I am going to do my best to leave Anchorage at daylight Saturday.  More than the water, I am scared of the massive potholes taking out my lower profile tires on my civic.  Bummer because the best fishing will be at first light partially due to tides.  But later in the day will be more like what we will see during the derby.  If I go, I plan to stay over so I will get to hit the falling tide on Sunday then head back early.

DOT has been staying on top of the potholes on the Seward highway pretty well.  There are a few bad spots around the end of the arm, but as long as you are riding the "humps" in the road, I don't think you have much to worry about.  Of course, I drive a truck with 33" tires on 17" wheels, so maybe I don't even notice potholes that would wreck Civic tires. . .      :P

I may have to bring some smaller gear the next time I'm down there. I've only ever impaled them on Halibut irons.

What?  Are you kidding me? Yellow Fin Sole?  You like them???  LOL.

Good for you!  I spent many days as a kid fishing them with my parents.  To be honest though, we prefer the tiny ones that are just a little larger than your hand.  My parents would cut an X on top and bottom, then brine them for a day or so.  Then let them hang outside to dry for a day or so.  Not too dry, but a bit.

Then we grilled or baked them or my favorite...deep frying them with just a light dusting of flour.  They were pretty good.  Ate them sorta like corn on the cob.

I've kept a few the past several years to take back to my parents and I have had issues with mushy flesh.  About half of them would be like the arrowtooth flounder where as the other half seemed to be exactly as I remembered them.  Firm nice white flesh.  Not sure what that issue was or if it continues now around the spit.

Definitely a blast on ultralight! We are so spoiled here.  Constantly tossing back YUCKY fish like pcod, sole, Pollock, etc.  Haha.  Manyv parts of he world, they are delicacies!

130 to 200 ft

Dam that's a lot of crankin from a yak, if I strike out on kings I guess I have no choice!

Currently at WG, figured I'd camp somewhere I could have a fire.  This place is a mess. The waves have pushed driftwood and other crap all the way to the parking area! Still beautiful though.
