I finally bought a kayak today. I bought an Ocean kayak Malibu two XL which was purchased 80% for family fun and 20% for fishing until I can get a trident. Right after buying it we went out to Winchester bay and played around by the Pier for a couple hours. The Malibu is good. Faster then the Hobie Kona we rented a few weeks ago, but no where near as stable as the Kona. The Malibu has a lot of rock like a canoe, and the kona feels more like sitting on a dock.
We had a good time and decided we were to tired to cook when we get home so an easy decision was made to stop at the local Chinese restaurant. After enjoying some sweat and sour chicken and pork fried rice I crack open my fourtune cookie and much to my suprise my fourtune reads "you will be spending some time on the water soon". The zen masters sure got it right this time.

....in bed.   :o

You need to add this little line to the end of your fortune to spice it up a bit.  :sex:

Although your's sounds like it would be a bit uncomfortable.    :confused3:

My wife took me out to dinner last Sunday for my b-day dinner at our local Chinese food buffet restaraunt. My fortune cookie said "You will soon be experiencing a whole new kind of excitement" ....in bed!     So, I was thinking of things to come later that night.  Then the wife hands me her fortune from her cookie, and it voided mine.  Said, "Do not give into evil temptations" ......in bed!   :angry3:

On you're Kayak, how to do plan to rig it for fishing?  Have you tried paddling from the center seat area?   I am considering that same yak for my wife and daughter to paddle, yet still allow the wife to paddle when she is solo on it.

;D Yeah we normally add "in bed" or "on the toilet" to make the pointless piece of paper a little humorous.....but last night no addition was needed. I will be spending some time on the water soon (in about two hours) and some wise old fourtune cookie wizard knew it.
Yesterday we tried the Malibu with every possible combo: wife and daughter, daughter and I, wife and I and then each of us took turns paddling solo from the center seat.
It paddled good for the wife and 9 year old. It has quite a bit of rocker compaired to the Hobie Kona we tried last week so my wife felt a little tippy at first with the 9 year old leaning way over with each stroke, but she got used to the ride and really enjoyed it by the time we were done.
As far as rigging, that is what I am going to try and figure out today. I plan on putting two flush mount rod holders, one extended scotty or ram mount, a fish finder and some extra eyelets for strapping gear down.
The hard part about the rod holders will be figuring out where I can put them that they can be with in reach but not be in the way with tandem or solo use.
My plan for the fish finder (at this point) is to put a hatch in front of the front seat and attach the FF to the hatch cover. It will be a little far forward when paddling solo and will have to be used by the front paddler when paddling tandem, but I have not figured out a better place for it yet.
My family and I are heading to Sunset bay as soon as we eat breakfast and I am going to spend a few hours paddling solo and tandem to try and figure out the best placement for my fishing set up.
Enjoy the ride!

Plz post some pics.  I would really like to see your trip and how you managed your paddling efforts.

Thx.
