I'm looking into buying my first kayak currently, and a friend of mine is selling his pro angler. He mainly fishes lakes, but i'm looking more towards fishing the salts. Would a pro angler do fine in the salts or am i better off getting a revo? Info is appreciated!

Thanks,
Jake

I really like my PA, although I don't do much salt fishing. One thing to think about with the PA is the weight, getting thru the surf may not be the problem, getting the PA across the sand to the waves may be a bigger issue. Just something to think about.
Good luck
John

If you are on the fence to get either one, I vote Revo.

The Revo will handle everything you can throw at it.
The PA provides a lot more stability over the Revo, but not going to paddle well if you kill your mirage drive.

Try them both and see what you think.

For me it depends on the launch and if you're getting salty in a bay or open ocean.

I've been out of Depoe in my PA14 and have seen others also.  I wouldn't want to do a surf launch on most days with it.  The other factor is wind.  As the wind picks up I think other hulls have an advantage over the PA series.

Thanks for all the input guys. I wouldn't be doing a lot of surf launches right now, but who knows in the future. For now I'll be putting in at the mouth of the quilayute and fishing LaPush or putting in at sekui. Might do some neahbay fishing too. Me personally I was afraid the pa14 would be too big and was leaning toward a revo 13.

If you can test them both out before you commit to purchase, it will go a long way in locking in a decision won't leave you with remorse.

I would love to test both, but only have a pa14 available. Its also tearing me that its at a price price. 2100$ for trailer, Cart, 2014 Pa14 fully rigged with turbo fins, sailing rudder, fishing finder, crates, pole holders, and more... Sigh... Did you guys stress this much when getting your first kayak? lol

At that price if you find you don't like it you can resell it keep the trailer and googies and still have enough to lay a bit on another boat. If it were me at that price I would pounce on it. Get out and fish it. Upgrade later later or just add another to the fleet. Just my $0.02

I agree with Mojo, you can always sell the PA for close to what you paid for the whole thing, possible more. Should you decide NOT to buy it, please pm me the contact details, I'd probably pick it up.

I don't think you'll go wrong with the PA 14 for that price.  I have a PA 14 and have used it on lakes, rivers bays, and the ocean  It is a great kayak to fish out of.
The surf launches aren't bad, other than if you have a wave break over you the water fills up the tank well and will make the kayak unstable for a few seconds until the water drains.   Once you know to expect this, it isn't bad.

Surf landings aren't the PA's strong point.  It is doable, but takes practice.  Out in the ocean the PA is a comfortable fishing machine.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Its worth a shot, and at very least I can re sell for my money back easy. Gonna take it out on Friday for my first kayak venture! Gonna start on the lake, and maybe the straight for some rock fish in a few weeks.
