Took my usual trolling route upriver....25-30 fow..one pass up,down. Screen couldn't be more blank. Decided to take unusual measures right away....get in by the stumps,15 fow. Soon as the screen said 15...fish on!Alot of fun..only started with 15 ft 0n the line counter...fish swam right at me and was at the swivel right away...I hate that! Had to maneuver a bunch..dont know how you paddlers do it. Under the boat twice, stumps next to me,no jump, but alot of flailing around. Much relief when she got the net...both hooks buried this time, she wasnt gonna throw em. Tagged it....as soon as I got the new herring on and hit bottom...boom big takedown. Alas,in my adrenaline infused idiocy I grabbed the rod and yanked..no fish.  :-[
Got quiet for awhile, couldnt seem to make the shallow thing work anymore..trolled in a funk kinda feeling bad about missing that 2nd one for about 2 hours. Then started getting a few bites, nothing would stick.Changed hooks, think they were dull from the earlier fish. Back to 15 fow ...boom! big takedown,no letting go...she hit it like a freight train. Was surprised to see a much smaller fish, though she fought well for a minute. Bigger one was 12 lbs.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

I could relate to the adrenaline infused idiocy part.   ;D  You know there was probably at least one Navy guy pretending not to be watching you yard in that fish.
