Weather on the peninsula was a little more that I wanted to fish, so I opted for a trip to PWS. Flat calm and sunshine all day. I launched from the end of the bay at high tide and followed the cliffs out opposite of the harbor. Didn't see any herring or birds diving on bait so I decided to target rock fish. I dropped a halibut spreader bar down with 24oz of weight and a squid skirt jig with 5/0 big river bait hooks tipped with squid or herring. Fished rock ledges from 50'-300' with most of my fish coming at the 150' range. Released more than I kept (PITA and a lot of cranking to deep water release). Saw several hump backs feeding throughout the day so that was nice. Kept 4 widow and 1 dusky rock fish to throw on the grill. Great day on the water, but no big fish to be found.

Looks like a nice little trip.  I've thought about hitting Whittier for some rockfish.

I really don't have any experience with rock fish other than a couple off my Hobie from Seward lots off a powerboat but my question is which have better rockfish Seward or whittier ?? It sounds like you catch more in whittier but sounds like size is better in Seward

That's a good question right there.  I've only caught smaller rockfish really.  I wouldn't mind finding some larger ones but think they might be out further.

I'm really interested in doing a trip to Whittier some day, but mostly because I want to hear what a 410 HP V8 sounds like in a tunnel ;)

LOL.

I want to go out and camp out by decision point and shrimp here in May.  Probably try to scare up some rockfish or what have you as well.

Looks like rain, but the east wind gets tricky. But the forecast has changed everyday this week. But looks like precipitation wherever we go.
