Anyone have experience with these: http://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Hobie-Scotty-1-5-Inch/dp/B0028SEXDM/ref=pd_sim_200_15?ie=UTF8&dpID=31NBvw9NYFL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0PXWR4EG8J9H5FNFZB1V and the factory rod holders on a Hobie ?

I actually like the placement of the factory holders, but they are very shallow. I'd like to mount my Orca, actually, and if this allows me to avoid drilling, even better.

TIA

Those are awesome! Work great and don't slip. Iv'e converted almost all of my scottys mounts with those. BTW, those work reaaly great in the hole for the sail too.

Oooh, oooh, I was thinking it might be nice to do something with that, besides the sail that I know will only get me into more trouble faster !

I believe the one you have in the link is for the sail mast. Works great for fish finders or cameras. I've heard mixed reviews on the larger one for the molded rod holders.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

the larger one is to small for the molded rod holders. For some reason they are just barely larger then what the ram mount will expand to. i bought two of them in hopes they would fit and they do not.

Reviving this thread... I did search and looked through the similar threads from the past.

I got a pair of the larger size RAM flush mount wedge adapters to try in my wife's Outback. I was surprised to find out that they don't "expand" big enough to fit the molded-in rod holders on the Outback. A few Google searches later and I see that many people went down the same path I did but I don't see any solutions listed.

Has anyone gotten around this issue? I am considering cutting some PVC or something to basically provide a shim; to functionally decrease the diameter that the wedge needs to expand in order to grab. But I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if someone else has a good solution already.

Thanks in advance...

I just bought the small one for my fish finder to mount in the mast hole. Then realized it is too far away to really use and mounted it in the side storage slot.  Now I have a mount with no use.  😩

Did that on my brother's yak...about a 4" length of PVC split lengthwise with some self-adhesive foam tape to improve the compression fit a bit. Worked great.

Are you sure you got the right ones?

Yes (the second time). The molded-in flush mounts are at least 1 1/4" wide, more than the 1" the larger RAM wedge will accommodate.

That's pretty much exactly what I was considering, thanks for the info!

I believe they are actually 1 3/8.  1 1/4 pvc to small and 1 1/2 too big

Yeah exactly. I know that 1 1/4" PVC slides in with plenty of room to spare due to another project.

They also make another one, that I have read fits, but won't hold firm because the Hobie molded holder doesn't have a pin at the bottom to keep it from twisting. (I have heard it works OK for camera mounts however)
RAP-385-12U is the part number and looks like:

I went through the same headache you did and ended up just mounting a round Scotty 344 flush mount over top of one of the molded-in rod holders.

I've never seen that RAM part before. Thank you for that and the Scotty base idea.
