So I went to the father in laws storage today to pick up these two unused truck boxes for the yak trailer build. While rummaging I mean digging them out I found some of my old travel trailers awning arms  ??? I forgot we had them so load them up and go home with a bunch of aluminum pieces  >:D now the fun begins derigging  all the riveted parts and start measuring and I'll be damned if I dint figure sumpin out................. Got dark more to come soon

That's using your dipstick Jimmy!   Nice use of recycled parts.  Looks like the awning bits were made for kayaks right from the factory.   :icon_thumright:

I'll take that as a compliment from a guy who really knows how to use his noodle for more then chicken soup. Nice thing is I can load them upright and easily roll the yaks on the bar they slide super easy just need a bigger job box the husky box isn't big enough to hold the 2 tuna seats, my 4 spare pfd's or the drive for the propel. The Nissan bed rail box holds my paddles smaller net and most of my tackle while the riggins for the boils ts are in the job box. I did have to notch the insides of the awning arms to accept the square uprights, that was a pain and I might have to find a guy that wants some aluminum practice to weld the pieces together... Know anyone?

I'll bet that aluminum has been anodized.  A lot tougher to do, but my TIG should have the technology to be able to handle it.  I just don't have any experience welding anodized aluminum.

It would be cool to see if I could get it dialed in.  Do you have some scrap pieces of the same stuff I could practice on first?

As a matter of fact sir I do a whole extra arm because before the awning ripped away we purchased an extre arm to repaire the slightly bent one so we had 3 total sitting in storage looking at me, funny part is that was over 5 years ago..... Now TLW knows why I hang onto some junk ;D

Did I just read that, as you saying you hung on to your wife for the mere fact she'll come in handy someday?

Good thinking!

Where I come from, we call that an investment.   ;)

So I decided to place the truck bed rail box farther back and it hold my tackle , paddles, both flagpoles, and my smaller net plus a lot of misc. stuff. The husky box is on wheels and holds one milk crate, Native seat, and all the rigging... It can be rolled down by the water for rigging so lugging a fully rigged boat is no longer necessary. Just need to figure out how to latch it down besides a lock and chain with ratchet straps. Also found a spot to put my grandsons boat :banjo:
