I know of one yak angler that took a king today.  Akfishin and his special lady friend scored some chicken 'buts. No dice for me. Still a great day on the water cruising around with the plastic navy.

Ya we lost a 25 or so at the boat.  All in all a good day, was cool hanging.  We will be fishing again tomorrow, working on a few more for the freezer.

Nice job, got some GoPro footage for us? I'm completely out of halibut so I need to go get some! How far out were you if you don't mind me asking?
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.

3 more today... Two chickens and one about 20 or so.  We had a fairly productive weekend.

I do have some footage.  I was in 50 ft of water towards Anchor Point.  Nothing but ping pong paddles today. One good king takedown for my son.   Video Should be uploaded by morning...

On Saturday, I head out with my son around 3:30pm a few hours before low tide.  Fishing was relatively slow.  My first two fish came in the span of less than 20 minutes.  In fact I was dealing with the first fish when the second fish strikes. I guess the fish went 25 and 45 ish… I dunno, maybe larger...too tired to take real photos or measure them.  My son manages a small chicken at the end, and I release several more ping pong paddles.  Started in 50ft...ended up drifting into 35 feet.

We drifted a lot further than I expected given we left only an hour prior to the high or low tide.  Gotta remember the tide turns later and really it doesn't really get going for 3 hours or so after high tide.  We barely made it back to the launch before dark.

Sunday, we drift north starting an hour before high tide.  My son releases two oversized ping pong paddles…maybe tennis racket head size.  I manage something on the order of a dozen sculpins.  So its still slow, but enough fish to make it interesting with a decent chance at a 30 plus pound fish.

I struggled with my fishing and near disastrous mistakes were made.  It’s amazing what was so easy last season was so difficult after a half year layoff from halibut fishing.  I will definitely be retying my buoy line into a single cord.  ARGH.  LOL.

We tried kings for about 3 hours on Sunday and my son had one really good takedown where the fish didn’t stick.

One oddity to note was that both large halibut had what looked like a pollock.  Other kayakers reported running into schools of pollock.  Odd to see a halibut without crab in it.  Other anglers reported seeing sand lances but no more hooligan and no herring.

It only gets better from here!!!!
