My son is relocating to Portland, he will be working in Tigard for Costco. He is looking for a place to rent, so if you know of anything please let me know. He is starting work on the 5th has some friends he can stay with for a little while, but he and his girlfriend will need a place soon. He is a good kid 30yrs old and never had an trouble financially or with the law. No drugs but he is a Beer Expert and his GF is a Sommelier. He has friends that live on SE Division and I think he would like to be close to there but anywhere 30 mins or less from Tigard would be great Thanks Mike

Good luck finding an affordable place in that neighborhood. Seriously, I wouldn't even try if I were in their shoes. That whole area has become extremely "hot" as far as real estate goes and has an extremely low inventory of affordable rentals since all the cool kids want to live there.  A good bet is to look in Tigard or Tualatin.  Better yet, try Newberg or Wilsonville. Sure, it's definitely not the hip scene that Southeast Portland is, but they may actually be able to find an affordable place to live. Added bonus is that the closer they live to the Yamhill valley (Sherwood, Newberg, McMinnville), the better the GF's commute would be if she were to get a gig at one of the many wineries in that area.

Do you know what his budget it? The rental market here is beyond insane right now especially for out of state folks moving in. I would ensure that he has a signed letter stating what he and they will be making there as proof for a landlord, they want to see that they have solid jobs and won't be here for 3 months then bail.

As someone who fairly recently moved to Portland from out of state I can say it's not easy and they need to be prepared to look for some time and likely be turned down in the process for no apparent reason aside from that they're from out of state (California)

I don't say these things to discourage you or him, just to be aware of the challenges they're facing.
